THOMAS

I`m looking for any information on my grandmother Nora Ellen Thomas. She married Fred Rittenberry sometime in the early 1900`s. She was born in 1890. That`s all I know.

Actually, I believe that your Alonzo was born George Alonzo Haynes, Jr. The 1930 U.S. Federal Census shows George A. Haynes in Mount Vernon, Jefferson, IL with his wife Mary E., and sons George A Jr (age 4) and Willie H (age 2). They are shown as married about 6 years.

I found George 'Sr' in SSDI (330-18-4774) born 20 May 1897, died Apr 1975 in Jefferson Co., IL. Mary Haynes (322-20-6820) born 7 Oct 1900, died Mar 1975 in Jefferson Co., IL.

George is the oldest son of James C Haynes and Anna A Bradve. James was a junk dealer (George 'Sr' was a laborer in his dad's yard). George 'Sr' born May 1897 (20 May 1897 to be exact).   Other sons of James: William R "Robey" born abt 1903 (m: Minerva) , Cecil C born abt 1904 Taft born 6 Dec 1907 and died 10 Jun 1980, twins Gilbert (died Feb 1972) and Gale born 13 Sep 1910.

James (b: Aug 1871 d: 6 Feb 1961) was the oldest child of Alonzo Haynes (b: Apr 1845 d: 11 Sep 1918) and Gillian "Gilley" Ann Linder (b: 10 Apr 1850 d: 25 Feb 1915)

Alonzo Haynes was 2nd son of John S Haynes (b: abt 1800) and Charlotte Drikes (b: abt 1817). Alonzo is buried in Egbert Cem, Wayne Co, IL. (apparently he isn't the only Haynes buried there... see below)

You might want to check to see if Jefferson Co and Wayne Co. IL have genealogical societies.

I know... I know... I get a little carried away, but once I got started I had fun. Most of my time was spent on Ancestry.Com, but I did use Family Search (LDS). Hope this helps. I would try to check all of this is if you can, because all this presents is someone else research without documentation (except for SSDI)

I found SSDI for Alonzo George Haynes, George A Haynes 'Sr', Mary (Hill) Haynes, Taft Haynes, Gilbert Haynes. And, of course, the obit for Taft's wife.

Have fun!
