I have been trying to find new information on my gma & gggma. My gggma was Lida (Liddie) (Gaddy) Henry. She was married to a John Henry. They were on the 1880 Census in Union Cty, Ky and in 1900 census in Union Cty, Ill she appeared by herself and her brother Elijah Gaddy and wife were living with her. On the same 1900 pg was my ggma (Julia, Julie Henry) with her husband Alexander Howard. My ggma Julia is on the 1920 censusin Johnson Cty, Ill. with my gma Ruby and all of her sisters. Is has my gggma Lida on her line being born in Ky and her mother and father in Ill my gggpa has him listed a being born in Ill. My gg-aunt Nellie says in mothers birthplace being Tenn but the rest of the sisters as mothers birthplace being in Ky. I have nothing what so ever on my ggpa or any before him. I will post a picture of my ggma Julia and my gma and 2 of my gg-aunts on the site. My ggma Julia was full blooded indian but I am not 100% sure it was Cherokee like I was told. There is a Howard Cemetary in Goreville, Johnson Cty, Ill ewre they are all supposed to be buried but it has had very little upkeep and you cannot read very, very few names or any other info. I know my ggma Julia was born 2/7/1865 and died 3/25/1926 and least that is what the certificate I have says. Father John Henry, birthplace Tenn; mother Lida Gaddy, birthplace Tenn. All I know of my GGpa Alex was that he was on the 1870 census as being 4 yrs old born at home and they were 3rd ward of Henderson, Ky. to Thomas and Mary. I am trying to get this line done before I can start on the others. Thanks to any and all who can help me break thru this bloack |

Just wanted to point out that Belle was not Elijah's wife. She is listed as Lydia's daughter on that 1900 census. Could you possibly rephrase your query and tell me exactly what you are looking for? |

It is always good to look at the folks around your ancestors when you are looking at census records. I looked for other Henrys listed in Shiloh, Union Co. Kentucky 1880 census and found a number of them. From those, I selected only those born in Tennessee. Your John was listed, as well as a James and Thomas. Thomas' mother, Delila also was born in Tennessee around 1825. Thomas was born around 1858, but his two younger siblings were born in Illinois. We would expect to find Delila Henry in Illinois in 1860. By the way, these folks are all on the same page so I am really assuming kinship. 1860 Grants Valley Williamson Co., Illinois Stephen Henry 44 Tennessee Delilia 35 Tennessee John B 18 Tennessee Martha F 12 Tennessee James 10 Illinois Geo 8 Illinois Frank P Illinois Next door Wm H H Henry 20 Tennessee Grasy A 18 Illinois Next door Chr? Illinois Stephen Henry 35 Tennessee Delilah Henry 25 Tennessee Wm H Harison Henry 10 Tennessee John B Henry 8 Tennessee Martha F Henry 1 Illinois .......................................................................................................... |

From what I am reading, you are saying that Julia Henry Howard was full blood Indian. that would mean that both John and Lydia were full blood Indian. Am I reading this correctly? |

If you look at the George Gaddy family in the 1850 Smith Co. Tennessee, it is likely that these are your folks. Although Eliza is listed on the census, and shown as a female, I believe this to be Elijah. Notice Lidia is listed as 6, but after Eliza at 4. I believe this was a transcribing mistake. If you compare Elijah and Lydia to the 1860 Lawrence County, Illinois census, they certainly could be the same. Notice young James Gaddy named his son George. He is found in Lawrence Co. Illinois in 1850 living with a James and Elizabeth Gaddy, presumably his parents, and others who look to be siblings. I am wondering if it is at all possible that he could have taken in his cousins. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ID: I28223 Name: George GADDY Sex: M Birth: Abt 1805 in Wilson Co.,Tennessee Death: Aft 1880?? Could this be Lydia's death information? She was living in 1910 Union Co. IL HENRY LYDIA MELISSA F/W UNK 0047217 1920-05-19 UNION ROAD DIST NO 1 20-05-20 I see her middle initial was M....if this is she, possibly the information you are looking for will be on the death certificate. If Lydia was full Indian, then Elijah would have been also. From what I have been reading, the Gaddys were Scottish. That would make her partially Indian. Interestingly, I found Gaddys in Smith County Tennessee, Macon and Smith Counties are where my husband's grandmother was born and lived. The same Indian stories are told a number of times in that area, it seems. You might want to connect with some of the folks who have these Gaddys in their lineage. You can do so at Ancestry.com. Just go to the trees showing Elijah Gaddy (probably grandfather or further of your Elijah) and pick up the coded email address of the contributosr.

This should wrap up what I have been e-mailing you. Illinois Widow's Pension Soldier Henry, John Widow Henry, Lydia Minor Henry, Anna B Company C 128 IL INF Company D 179? IL INF Invalid Dec 21, 18?? Widow July 17, 18?? Minor looks like July 29, 1925, but most certainly could be something else. Maybe someone else can see better than I. There is a note that he died in 1881 or 1891. |
