Hello Group: I hope someone can help me here. I have located my GrGrAunt's daughter (another with the same name) Jane Sturgis who married a William Arnold in DeKalb Co., 1865. In 1870 (someone looked at the census for me) found them in Peoria with three children: Henry, Ellen & Elizabeth. After that we cannot locate them. I sure would appreciate any and all help locating them. It's like they disappeared? You all have been so kind and helpful. We do know that she came over from England in 1859 with a William Sturgis (my GrGrGrGrandfather) but we cannot locate anything on him either. Also with them is her uncle Robert Sturgis who married Sarah Bird. We also have her aunt (also same name) Jane Sturgis who married Lewis Bend in Leland. But the niece Jane Sturgis Arnold is a mystery and that of her husband and children. Kind reguards, Martha in CA |

Hi Martha;
A quick check suggests that Wm. died some time between 12870 and 1880 in Ford Co., IL. Robt--Wm's son not his brother--moved to Franklin Co. NE, some time after 1891. This is where he died in 1901, and where Sarah died in 1924. They had at least 5 children--all but one b. in IL. Wm. wife was named Molly and they had at least 6 children, including Jane and Robt. Apparently some kind of catastrophe struck Jane's family between 1870 and 1880. I found a Henry Arnold of the right age living with his step-parents, Augustus & Auata Brickner, in JoDavies Co. ca. 1880. Also in 1880, a Jane Arnold of approx. the right age is listed as being married to a John Arnold in Cook Co.--no kids listed. Cheers, Wayne

As Wayne showed, there's a Barbara Ellen Sturges in 1880 Kane County with a Robert Sturges. Robert was born about 1852. The children in the household suggest that this could have been the couple married in 1873. |
