Looking for the more info on "John Eugene Wright" born 28 Sep 1918 in Canton, Ill. Died 6 Mar 1984 in Oregon. His fathers name was Harry Wright. The only thing else I know was that Harry had a brother named Charles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jill |

Hi Jill;
I looked for John in the 1920 Census but couldn't find anyone who really fit. (Note that there was a second John E. Wright, b. 1918 in IL and d. 1984 in OR.) Anyway, I think I found him w/ his g/parents in 1930--see below.
But even better, FamilySearch had a partial family tree for John and his wife Caroline (gedcom attached), which gave me some extra stuff to work with... and it looks as though John's 84-year old wife may still be alive...phone number is (541) 756-3291.
There are also two family trees on Ancestry which list John and Caroline but both are private and require that you contact the owners (details are included below).
Cheers, Wayne

Hi Wayne. It is so funny that you are looking for John and Caroline Wright,
both would be in their 80's. My next door neighbor and his wife are John and
Caroline Wright, both in their 80's. They are from Va. as far as I know. I just
thought I might get to help for a change. One of those private trees is from
this family. It was done by Caroline's family I believe. I guess John Wright
isn't a very uncommon name. . . . . .Later, Les |

Since we do most of our work in the counties of our folks, it is best to try looking at there. Canton is in Fulton Co. In the World War I Draft Registration Cards I found a Harry Harrison Wright, born August 12, 1892. He was living in Canton. Harry worked for the Eagle Coal Company and had a wife by the name of Pearle/Pearla. Their address was 820 South 5th Avenue. He registered on September 12, 1918, and his description was short and stout with blue eyes and brown hair. |

In 1920 Harry and Pearl were living a 719 S. Fourth Ave. in Canton, appearing to have moved to the house behind their old one. They show no children in the household. He is shown only as H. Wright, of the correct age, with a wife, Pearl. This was the only Harry Wright shown in the draft registration database for Fulton Co., Since the date was 1918, and they did live in Canton, I would assume we are looking at the correct family. |

Harry appears to be the son of John and Emma Wright, living in Canton in 1910. Hopefully there are other children, even though Harry is the only one listed. John was 64 years old, and Emma 63. Since they said they had been married 40 years, this should be their marriage. WRIGHT, JOHN SHINAMON, EMILY 04/26/1869 00D/0141 00000152 FULTON Emma had given birth 8 times, and 8 children were living. This gives us hope that there could be other folks out there researching this family. |

There was one Harry Wright who died early in Fulton County. This is his death record that you might want to go fishing for, especially since there were no other Harry Wrights in 1918. WRIGHT HARRY CLINTON M/W UNK 0290382 1923-12-11 FULTON CASS TWP This would mean either his draft record was incorrect or his death record is. It is possible that Harry was short for Harrison. I see there are connections between the Wright family and Harrison family in Fulton Co. but I do not know what it is. |

In 1900 John b. March 1844 Illinois and Emily August 1846 Indiana had, these folks in their household: Addie C born Dec 1889 Harry H. born August 1892 It is not uncommon for folks to forget their birthdates. This happened to my husband's grandfather, and they had to make up a date for him when he went on Social Security. This is close enough to be your same folks. But I'm kind of hesitant about that death certificate now. |

By the way, in that 1900, Emma said she had given birth 10 times, with 8 children living at the time. John and Emma are in the 1880 with William Ellen Minnie Daisy |

Comparing two sets of 1910 census records, I was trying to find a possible last name for Pearl. I would guess...a real guess, that her maiden name was Fitzgerald. She is found on page 14 of 40 pages of Canton's census found at Ancestry. Harry and family are found on page 9 of 40. This is in hopes of you finding another researcher. I am looking at the 1920 records that Wayne posted. I think I would look at Charles E. Wright and Pearl Wright. Could it be that Harry died and she remarried a Wright who already had a child? |

Well, we backtrack. Charles Earl Wright is found in the Draft records, married with two children and living in Madison County, Illinois. |

1930 Fulton County shows an 11 year old John Wright living with his grandparents. There is also a Raymond L, age 10. They are living with John and Melinda Hall. John and Melinda Hall are found in the 1910 census with a daughter Pearl, as well as 6 other children. This Pearl is age 13, or born in 1896-1897, as was Harry's wife |
