I am so blocked up on Harness Jackson Beaver who Married Nancy J McGrath.

Both of these individuals have me stumped.  Harness, (Harnes, Harn, Harvest and Harry) was born in Rockbridge VA abt 1827 and Nancy J McGrath was born 09 Mar 1828 Ohio.

My Rutherford line also has a big road block.  Can not find the father to John T Rutherford b 20 Sep 1796 Sangamon, Illinois who married Hester Constant b 1796 Fleming Co Kentucky.

We also know there is Native American in this line, but unable to locate that too.

Thank you in advance for your help and attention.  Cheri Shelton

Yes, I had found this and this is how I found that Nancy Jane McGrath McGrievy Beaver, married a Mr, J Scott.  Daughters Mary Susan Beaver and Addie (Martha Catherine) Beaver were living with her.  Evidently her husband Mr Scott already decieased.

  • Thank you so very much... It gives me alot to work with. Some of it I have, but some gives me leads.  The Questionalbe accounts is that everyone seems to  be light and fair complected.  Grandma Addie stated herself she was of Native American Decent.  ????  So many questions and the answers are hidden somewhere.  We will find them.  Thank you, now I am off on a new lead,  Will keep you updated on what I find.   Cheri

Assuming your Harnest was in Illinois in 1840, and assuming he is a brother to John, and assuming that the two boys are included in the above census records, you can at least narrow a family down to research.

1850 Census
Marion County

Abraham Beaver was born abt 1802 Virginia
Matilda 1811 Ohio
Martin 1833 Illinois
George M 1835 Illinois
David 1837 Illinois
Mary 1839 Illinois
Sarah 1841 Illinois
Isaac 1844 Ohio

There are also 16 year old Mary Sousabaugh and 14 year old William Sousabaugh living with the family.  They were born in Ohio, possibly relatives to Matilda.

There is Samuel Beaver family in Marion County 1850
Samuel Beaver 1798 Virginia
Elizabeth 1799 Virginia
Lucinda 1821 Ohio
Isaac 1828 Ohio
Mary 1833 Illinois
Samuel 1837 Illinois
Elizabeth 1839 Illinois

There is a John Beaver born 1828 Ohio living with the Dortha White family, Dortha also born in Ohio.

If you can match these folks out to the 1840, you should be able to eliminate John and Harnest as children of either of these families.

I could see no sign of Gabriel Beaver in Illinois.  There was one in Pennsylvania in 1850 but he was born 1833 PA.

I found no Gabriel (no last name) in Sangamon County 1850 who would match the family.

I found no Gabriel Beaver using Soundex for Beaver in 1850 Illinois

I believe John and Harness both could fit into the Grabriel Beaver household of 1840.  There were only two male children and a young male adult.  The older adult male would presumably be Gabriel.

I see where some folks have Abraham as their parents.  I'm questioning that.

There are both a David and an Abraham Beaver in 1820 Rockbridge, Va.  Abraham appears to have males in the household who could be Gabriel,  I am not good at figuring out those unmarked census records.  You may want to examine them yourself.

David looks to have had several younguns in his family.

By following neighbors of Gabriel Beaver found in 1840 Sangamon County, most appear to have been living in the Pleasant Plains area of Sangamon County in 1860, or district 17.  Others were in District 16.

Please don't just take my word for this, as I've made plenty of mistakes.  But check for yourself.
