I'm sorry, I am only finding the family in 1880 Meigs County, Tennessee. They had been living there, it appears, for at least 6 years. That is how old Lucinda is, and she is shown born in Tennessee. Could you tell me where in Illinois they were also found? |

I ran across a Jane Moreland in 1900 Hamilton, Tennessee. This is how I decided to look at Hamilton County. Since I found your family in 1880 Meigs Tennessee, I ran a Meigs Tennessee search for your surname. Besides a John Moreland in the 1840 census, I also found two Moreland marriages that appeared to connect to your family. An Agnes Moreland married Franklin Ray/Rhea in 1894 and a John E. Moreland married a Hanna Colbough in 1887. I searched for Agnes Ray/Rhea all over tarnation, and couldn't find her. I searched for Hanna Moreland as well (exhausted the Males first). Then I saw another marriage, a J. E. Moreland married Lou White. I searched for Lou Moreland, and I found a Lou Moreland, wife of Edward in Hamilton County. Before I dismissed these two, I had already thought the famliy probably interchanged first and middle names and that is why they are so difficult to find. Could Edward have been John's middle name? Looking closer, I saw a Colbough family in the previous entry in the 1900 census. That was enough information to run a full search for Moreland in 1900 Hamilton County. Possibly John had first married Hannah and then married Lou. That is where Jane Moreland came in (Martha Jane?). Jane was shown born 1827 North Carolina (close enough). She had with her 15 year old Davie Underwood, Grandson born September 1884. |

1910 Hamilton County. A widowed Lou Moreland is living with Sarah White. I think I am at least on the right track with this lady. |

By the way, Both Martha J Moreland in 1880 and Jane Moreland 1900 had places of birth for self and parents as NC NC VA. If she is the elderly lady who died in Meigs Co., in 1916 (age 86) I sure would like to find her in 1910. |
