Hello Group: I am hoping that I can break down this BRICKWALL.
My GrGrGrandparents: Samuel & Sarah Allen.
1860 DeKalb they are living in the poor house.
1865 head count census all are living together with an older man, who this is I do not know.
By 1870 Sarah is dead. But I do know that they left DeKalb to go to Kane Co.
Between 1865-1870 Sarah Allen dies. Cannot locate anything on her.
In 1881 (according to my other GrGrGrandfather's Civil War file) Sam Allen, Jr.
States his father Samuel Allen died in 1881. But where? When?
I have been trying for years to get Sarah's maiden name, and where in England are they from. My suspect some where around the Lincolnshire area.
As that is where the rest of my family is from. No one has been as hard to find as are Samuel & Sarah. I cannot go back any further it has dead ended here for years.
There might be a clue in the Biographical Sketches of Kane Co.
I know in one of them, it lists a few members of my family. But I have just found
out that there are 3 volumes. I thought there was only one.
I am hoping that some kind soul can check all three volumes and see if we could find
Samuel & Sarah. Reason being, they did my other side of the family. There might be a mention. And as my GrGrandfather (also) Samuel Allen was in one (he was a teamster), but that was reguarding my Sturgis family line, as he married one of their
daughters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!
Kind reguards,
Martha in CA

Samuel Jr.'s mother's maiden name should be included in his marriage record, if it was known.

ALLEN, SAMUEL STURGIS, MARY 12/15/1878 000/0000 00000358 KANE

the RECORD - if after 1877 - gives a lot more info - (parents of the bride & groom; birthplaces, ages, current residences & occupations of bride & groom; name & title of person performing the marriage; and if AFTER 1877, also gives the location of the marriage, the names of the witnesses, and the number of marriages - including this one - for the bride & groom.)

Either of these your Samuel Jr?  The record should show his mother's maiden name, and possibly places of birth.

1880 Kane County

As you know Samuel Sr. and Samuel Jr. were living with the Sturgis family in 1880.  The township was Virgil.  The logical burial place, if Samuel died in 1881, would be a cemetery in Virgil township.

These are the cemeteries.

Virgil Township
Gardner Cemetery
St. Peter & Paul (Catholic)
Thatcher Cemetery

Not sure the link works, but this site says that tombstone inscriptions are available in Virgil Twp.
