I have a fairly complete set of transcripts for the cemeteries of Shelby Co IL (and a FEW surrounding ones, in Moultrie and Cumberland Cos). Will gladly do look-ups for anyone who contacts me. --NAF

NAF,

Can you do my mother a favor? She wants a lookup in the Shelby Co. Cemeteries Book for Tegenkamp. She would greatly appreciate it if you do that. Apparently her messages got deleted. I know she did send a message about the lookup because I got a message about it this afternoon.

Jenny, there is indeed a "family" grouping of Polley graves in the Gallagher Chapel Cemetery in Holland Township, Shelby County, IL (located a half-mile west & i mile north of Fancher, IL). However, the three people you are seeking did not have marked graves there in 1971-2, when the cemetery inscriptions were transcribed by Edward H. Boedecker (see his book, Inscriptions of Shelby County, Illinois Cemeteries, Volume II, first pub. 1972 & reprinted in 1980 & 1996). Perhaps your father and grandparents were interred after this cemetery was read; or, according to Mr. Boedecker, "There are quite a few unmarked graves, especially in the west half."

There are no Westenhaver graves recorded in Gallagher Chapel Cemetery. The Polleys whose inscriptions were recorded during the reading of Gallagher Chapel Cemetery are listed below, verbatim from Boedecker's book, pp. 31-32:

W. A. Polley
May 10, 1833 (no death date)

Sarah wife of W. A. Polley
July 12, 1842 - Nov. 21, 1903

Minnie B. dau of
W. A. & S. Polley
Aug. 15, 1873 - Dec. 22, 1890

Lenard H. son of W. A. & S. Polley
May 11, 1869 - Oct. 14, 1899

N. W. (Bill) Polley
1877 - 1958

Dora E. Polley
1884 - 1958

Harmon Polley
Aug. 21, 1902 - Oct. 19, 1938
God be with you till we meet again

Minnie Polley Abraham
Nov. 21, 1916 - Aug. 4, 1965

Everett Polley
1899 - 1971

Robert D. Polley
Nov. 10, 1956

Levurn F. Polley, Illinois Pfc.
Medical Department, World War II
Nov. 23, 1922 - July 29, 1945

Laura Polley
Aug. 22, 1870 - Dec. 4, 1934

Two next to above, no marks

Eddie son of F. & L. Poley
Died July 3, 1903
Aged 5 ds.

Mable dau of F. & L. Polley
Died Apr. 6, 1906
Aged 1 yr. 14 ds.

Two small stones next to above
No marks

There are a few other Polley (or Polly) graves scattered among other cemeteries in other corners of the county, but your father's and/or grandparents' graves aren't listed among them, either. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Could I please ask for a lookup? I'm seeking my g-g-g-father John Pope, who died approx 1858... his wife Rachel remarried in 1860 in Fayette Co, but John & Rachel were enumerated alternatively in Fayette and Shelby counties from the time of their migration from TN in the late 1840's, to join many of the earlier-migrating POPE kin. -
Thank you!
molly

Molly, I won't be able to get to it for a few days, but I'd be happy to search for John Pope then. -- NAF

I know you have had a lot of requests for lookups but could you see if there is a Henry Brant in Cumberland county.

I don't have a death date, just that his family lived in Cumberland county, Hurricane Precinct on the 1860 US census. I have an estimated birth date as 1819.

Then his wife married Elias Anderson December 13, 1866 in Coles county.

Thank you for your help,
Marla

Sorry, Molly -- I didn't find John Pope in any of the cemetery transcripts for Shelby County, IL. Nor does he appear in any of the probate record indices for that county. That doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't die in Shelby County, since not all early graves are marked (and not all deaths triggered probate records). However, all I can suggest is checking Fayette County records for him. If his widow remarried there, then his family may have moved there before his death. -- NAF

NAF...

Could you possibly tell me if you have a Taylor Heady in your transcripts? I have found everyone else in the family except him. He lived in Tower Hill. Thanks Criss

Hi!  Nancy emailed me with your response.  MSN is being crazy again and she cannot access the site.  She asked that I send her apologizes for not responding "in person" but to give you the information she has found.

Your Taylor Heady does not appear in any of the Shelby County cemetery transcripts.  Nancy looked beyond the area where you thought he lived.  However, that does not mean he is not buried there.  One transcript mentioned that it is thought there may be another burial of that surname (but it wasn't Taylor) buried without a stone.  IF there are burials without stones, your Taylor could still be there and just not show up....

Sorry.  I know this isn't what you were hoping to find.  Good luck in your search!

Raylene

Will you take a look for me and see if y ou can come up with anything for Elizabeth Potterf Sibbitt. She was the first wife of Thadeus Warsaw Sibbitt. He and second wife Mary Elizabeth Bunncutter Sibbitt are burried at the Tower Hill Cemetery. I have not been able to locate Elizabeth's burrial site yet. Thank you so much..Criss
