Jim,

Click on the Windows "Start" button,
Mouse over to "My Pictures"
(XP originally defaults to this file location when saving pictures)
at the very least there is a folder named "Sample Pictures"
you could open that folder to get the feel for this or if you see your scanned photo/document click on it
XP will open the pictures you have saved into a
"Windows Picture and Fax Viewer"or sample pictures will open in a similiar fashion
from there you can right click on the picture and choose
"Send To" then
"Mail Recipient"
*at this point, you will need to have your email setup or go thru the setup process the if the email client is not already selected.*
provided your email is setup, you will have the choice to "Make all my pictures smaller" or "Keep the original sizes"
*this adjusts the picture to fit the email pane.
for folks like my dad (I do love him) whom scan photos in so big.. you have to pan three screens left-right (I have been guilty of this also)*

The way Wayne has described is a very good way to accomplish the same goal.  I merely offer a different method.

Carolyn
PS - I could never drive to work on the same route in the city.  Windows is like me in that respect.... you can always take a detour, but you get to the same destination.
