Hi Folks;

Someone on Rootsweb COOK-IL List just published a way to get into HeritageQuest for free. I tried it out and although you have a number of steps to go through to get there it does work.

Enjoy, Wayne

"you can access HeritageQuest for free. www.hbpl.org
Select the red banner marked catalog/renewals.
Select login to geoweb
Select guest login to geoweb
Then select all referrals to HeritageQuest. There are about 7 (sequential) screens total."

When accessing Heritage Quest, you might wish to take a few moments and check out the publications.  These are either searchable or browsable.  You can search by surname, locality, or publication.  For example, using the search term "Illinois", I was given 7749 hits, including: <DIR>

IL Cemetery Records compiled by the D.A.R., published in 1969 (Imperfect, typescript, some of the print faded with some loss of text):

DeKalb Co.--Dresser Road Cemetery

Kesslinger Road Cemetery

Bureau Co.--Aldrich Cemetery

Sapp Cemetery

Roggy Cemetery

DeWitt Co.--Rose Cemetery

And these were just among the first 34 entries on the list!  I was attempting to catalog some of them, to post in the lookups, but was too overwhelmed!

(My access is through the website of the local library, and my library card number is my password to Heritage Quest.  This costs me nothing (except the taxes I pay, of course!  ).  Ruth

I might be doing something wrong, but I could access Heritage Quest using this backdoor only once.

I enjoyed my visit there and logged out thinking I could re-enter any time using this guest entry, but when I returned, the access was unavailable. boo hoo!!

I'll have to see if my librarian can't do something about this!!

Prudy,
Check on Heritage Quest. You can go to search and then get a listing of
all the publications that they have on the internet. Also check the Harrisburg
library and the John Logan library in Carterville. You might also check the
Paducah library since that is closer. I know they have a web site since a couple
of friends are accessing Heritage Quest through the Paducah library.

Saga,

I have been going in and I have not had a problem with it. I think you would
have to repeat the whole process every time you want to go to Heritage
Quest.

Chris

you can try a Google search for him.

Usually means that all the books listed, info possibly in there on subject, then go to the book section and start hunting. Not a quick job.
