This is from the Illinois Genealogy Forum:

1) http://infoweb.newsbank.com/

Login with username 'guest' and password 'guest'. There is lots of great stuff here but the best info is found by clicking on "America's Obituaries & Death Notices". This gives you access to death notices in the Chicago Tribune from 1860 - present! If you don't see this link, then you're probably using a computer from a library or school which has its own subscription to NewsBank so only allows you to see what's in their subscription package. Talk to them about adding this link or simply access the site from home or a friend's computer.
 Some of the interesting items using simply "Jaacks" for a search term while searching in Illinois, and only 2 databases (Chicago Tribune Historical Archive, 1860-1984, and All Illinois Sources) brought 26 results:

Hi Ruth;

I thought I had already tipped IKK to to this link--apparently not. Thanks for the tip anyway--a couple of the obits you found didn't turn up on my earlier searches so they must be updating the link again. So far the obit on Martha Hendricks is the only on-line evidence I've ever found for my g-grandmother.

I'm not sure but the recent updates may be a result of AHML's efforts to digitize the Trib's archives as this ource went for a long time woth no new data and then suddenly started producing a lot more hits.

Thanks again, cheers, Wayne

Wayne, I figured you already had those, but since Jaacks is a fairly unusual name, and one of the few I knew that had Chicago connections, I used it for a sample search.
Carolyn, So happy you could find something useful there!
Awesome Prudy, I have no idea why you could not log in.  Sorry!
There were quite a few Sjogrens mentioned as well.

On the infoweb.newsbank.com site that you sent, also click on the HA search.
That is the Historical Archive for the Chicago Tribune. I have hit the jackpot
on that part. Currently reading the Will of Anton Cermak that names his
wife's brothers. No one in the family knew they existed. This site is causing me
to lose sleep. I was up to 3:00 am digging and reading. Definately hooked on
genealogy.

Hi--I checked out the page and I could only get back to 1974. I was using
the name Ferriter. I found the ones in the 1900 but nothing in 1800. I
think I must be doing something wrong. How far did you get back? lodee

I have had some luck with other family
surnames. Eager to tap out the database I looked for more possible
relatives besides the surnames I had searched. Most, but not all, of the
death notices are for Chicago. I was amazed at how far back the Historical
Archive dates back. Thank you again for the information.
Carolyn

Hi Ruth;

Actually you managed to pull some that I hadn't gotten earlier.

What I meant to say was that I thought you guys already knew about this particular site--I've been using it for quite awhile. In fact I thought I had tipped ya'll to it but apparently not--for that omission I sincerely apologize.

In any event you need to check out all the links on it as you get differing results from each. Also, you need to check back regularly as they're constantly updating. For instance, when I checked HA for Cermak the first time around I didn't get all the stuff that Susan just got.

Thanks for saving my fumble. Cheers, Wayne

Wayne,
You did post the site before. I spent a lot of time in it before. For some
reason I came up with several new things in the HA site that were not there
before. Also in the Chicago Tribune, all of the obits cannot be there. My
grandmothers isn't yet her date of death falls within their time range. I think it is
one of those check again in a month or two and see what appears. Now if they
would just translate and put the Denni Hlastel obits online.

Wayne, I am not surprised you had already found and listed this site.  If I don't have at least one "Grandma Moment" each hour, I need to check my pulse to see if I'm still alive!  Senility is such fun!  You discover new things all the time....like your children.... where you left the car.... your address.  Anyway, if I don't pass on the things I trip over, they are all too soon forgotten.  Of course, then I can "find" them again eventually!  Ruth

Carolyn,
Don't get lost in there like I did. If you go into the historial archive
search do both the death and the general search on the right hand side. I got
different results and found the Cermak will. I have also found some new
names to dig, so I'll have to go back in. Heritage Quest is starting to get the
1900 census online. Unfortunately, Illinois isn't up yet.

Hey Ruth;

Grandpa's have those moments too which is why I was concerned that I hadn't already posted this link on site. I distinctly remembered doing so but I've remembered things before, things that my wife has assured me just weren't so. Its nice to know I still retain a few of my marbles.

Cheers, Wayne
