I have a big problem and hope someone can help me out.  For years, I have been searching for the parents of Aaron Swain Gibbs who was born 20 Aug 1828 in Lyons, Wayne Co., New York.  Last year I found a notation in the Mendon Dispatch I have on a CD, where he and his brother (John C.)  attended the funeral of their mother, Mary Clark-Gibbs in Mendon, Adams Co., Illinois in 1885.  Then I found her death notice but It did not mention her husbands name...........(.I think it is Aaron but cannot prove it).  I have located a Jonathan Gibbs and his wife Elizabeth in the 1880 census  of Honey Creek, Adams Co., Illinois  I believe this Jonathan/John is one of her children but cannot prove it.  They had children named Jane age 16, Linda age 14, Albert age 11, Charles age 6, and Maud age 3.  Does anyone recognise this family?
I also located a daughter of Mary Clark-Gibbs who was Ann Elizabeth Gibbs who was married to William P. Barclay.  They are buried in the Mendon Cemetery.
Marys death notice stated she had been a widow for about 30 years so I believe her husband died in New York, Conn., or NJ. before she came to Illinois.  The notice also stated she had given birth to 10 children, all attaining the age of adult hood.  I have only located 3 of her children:  Jonathan/John, Ann E. and my gt grandfather Aaron Swain bn 1828.  Does anyoneknow this family?

Thanks Wayne.....this is really a big help.  Now I have to prove it.  What is "Family Data Collection"?  CD`s??  Do you know if the info on Aaron and Mary Clark-Gibbs  was submitted by an individual or is this a court house recordAaron Swaine Gibbs and Anna Elizabeth Battell were my gt grand parents.  Their daughter married Tom Lewis.  When he died, she married his brother Rolland.  Aaron and Anna Elizabeth are buried in Greenmont Cemetery in Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois.  Aaron`s mother, Mary Clark-Gibbs is buried in the Mendon Cemetery in Mendon, Illinois.  Was there any citation as to who had this information?  Would love to talk to them.  I went home last year in June and was able to go to Mendon so took pictures of the side of the Barkclay stone where  Mary Clark-Gibbs birth and death dates are given, July 1795-1885.  I think her husband must have died  in Lyons, NY or on the way to Illinois.  You seemed to have found him in New Jersey in 1830 and Wayne Co., NY in 1840. Thank you so much!!!!
I think I am beginning to ramble......just got off the graveyard shift.....so will begin again after I get some sleep.
Thank you again.  I`m in North Louisiana so its hard to find info on anything  from the North here.

Could John have remarried?  Ordering this marriage record should show his parent's names, if it is indeed he.

Hi;

All that data is from Ancestry.com.

The source data for the info from the family data collection is:
"Edmund West, comp.. Family Data Collection - Individual Records [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2000.

Description:
About Family Data Collection - Individual Records
The Family Data Collection - Individual Records database was created while gathering genealogical data for use in the study of human genetics and disease.

A unique database containing 5 million genealogical records (20 million names) that were saved from destruction after being rejected from scientific studies. The Family Data Collection records were created while gathering genealogical data for use in the study of human genetics and disease. Compiling data for genetic research does not require the same type of documentation as traditional genealogical research. The genes themselves verify relationships and qualify or disqualify a person from a particular study. Citing the source of every genealogical fact in the electronic gene pool was deemed unnecessary and cost prohibitive by medical researchers. Millions of individual records were created from birth, marriage and death records; obituaries; probate records; books of remembrance; family histories; genealogies; family group sheets; pedigree charts; and other sources. The records collected that did not fit a specific study became the project's "by-products" and were schedule to be discarded. After viewing the quality of the source material used to create the gene pool and despite the absence of cited documentation, the electronic rights to the data were purchased, rather than see it destroyed.

Thousands of families are known to be present in the database, containing 20 million names in 5 million records. This data covers the entire U.S. for a wide expanse of years. At a minimum, each record contains an individual's name, date and place of birth, and the name of his or her father. A complete record will contain the following information for an individual: Name, Date and Place of Birth, Date and Place Married, Date and Place of Death, Name of Spouse, Name of Father, Name of Mother, Use this database as a finding tool, just as you would any other secondary source. When you find the name of an ancestor listed, confirm the facts in original sources, such as birth, marriage, and death records, church records, census enumerations, and probate records for the place where the even took place."

OneWorldTree has no attribution but there was a personal tree listed--Gibbs Family Tree--but you have to contact the source through Ancestry to get any data other than:
"Aaron Swain Gibbs
Born: 20 August 1828 in Lyons, Wayne, NY, USA
You will also find attached to this person
* 1 attached records
* 1 sources
* 1 people in this member tree
Connect with the owner of this tree".

It doesn't look as though the owner has much info based on the above though.

BTW: I live in MD so my IL resources are relatively limited too. I could go to the National Archives in DC but its a real hassle. You may want to go to FamilySearch, on-line and skim through their catalog. That way you can go to your local FHC knowing which films to order from them

Speaking of FamilySearch they had the following (and a lot more):

The Aaron Gibbs found in 1840 Wayne Co., NY  had 5 young females and only 2 young males in his household.  Assuming these are his children, it makes sense that you are having trouble identifying all 10 children.

I assume you know that Swains were also living in Wayne co., NY, so it is very likely that Mary's maiden name was Swain.

This has to be my Gibbs.  What was confusing me is that there was a John and a Jonathan Gibbs both in Adams Co.  The Jonathan I was tracking ended up in Calif.  The name of his wife was referenced as E. J. or Elizabeth Jane which fit everything I was finding but there is something I just cannot put my finger on yet that just doesn`t jive.  I really believe it is John C. who I need to trace.  My grandmother Minnie Gibbs Lewis never talked about anyone except Aaron Swain Gibbs who was married to Anna E. Battell.  When I really started searching for the Gibbs family, Granny was not capable of passing on any information, but.she still could give you the name of her parents...Aaron and Anna Gibbs and that they were from N.Y.  I think my mother new a lot but would not tell you unless you hit on the right question.  She always said you might find something you didn`t need to know.  Horse thieves???? That would make it interesting.  Her sister knew a lot but mom would not let me ask her anything so now I`m doing it the hard way.
I did stumble onto a small amount of schandle concerning a Gibbs who was killed by an ex girl friend who was mad because he was seeing another woman.  She threatened suicide if she was ever released from jail so she could be with him in death.
Apparently there was a big write up in the 'Herald" so am working on that too.  Would love to find out the ending.

Is Family Data collection just available on Ancestry??  I have looked for information at the library where they have a subscription to Ancestry but that too seemed to be limited even tho they had a subscription.
As to the info on One Family Tree.....it probably came from what is on Roots Web on Aaron Swain Gibbs.  I gave my info to my cousin with the stipulation that if she gave the info to anyone, she was to at least give me the credit for the research.......she didn`t.  When it ended up on line it was jumbled up and gave info on living descendents.  I have contacted the person who put it on line and have asked them to please make corrections and remove certain names but they have refused saying it is their research............????  Funny, it still has my personal notes.

Thanks Melody.  This is one more I can add.  How do you find all of this information??  Before I started doing shift work, I had time to go to the library every day.  Now I do good to make it for an hour a year.  With shift work you are either sleeping or getting ready to go to work.
Thanks again.  This gives me another clue.

Did some digging on this John C.and realized the dated don`t match up.  Apparently this John lived in Coatsburg and was born in 1871 in Adams Co. and died 1948 in Coatsburg.  If this was my John Gibbs, Mary Clark would have been 74 years old when he was born, soooo it just can`t be.  Yet the Service record for John Gibbs, If he enlisted when 22 years old, would make him born ca 1840 which fits.

Hugs and kisses.

Where did you find all that info?  I can`t find anything on line at the Wayne Co Gen Web.
Just got in from graveyard and need to go to bed but I don`t wanna.  Wanna research but mind is not working well.  Have to mow the yard before I go nite nite.
Also want to review the CD I have "Obits and Deaths from the Mendon Dispatch of Adams Co Ill 1877-1905".  May have missed something.
