I read this virus alert at Yahoo News and thought I should pass it on Please read the info the virus started on Halloween Article is written by Daniel Tynan at SBC YAHOO NEWS it reads as follows:
Blaster,Slammer,Sobig,Lovsan,-if these words are familiar to you, you might have been one of this years victims of various and vicious security attacks.Just Friday , appropriately enough on Halloween, yet another monster reared its ugly head as computer security experts warned of a potentially troublesome new e-mail worm,Mimail C slowly spreading amoung both corporate and home e-mail users.
This latest threat is a variant of the W32.Mimail worm that surfaced in August and comes as an e-mail message with"our private photos" in the subject line and an attached .zip archive file called"photos.zip"
Infections start if you unpack the file from the attachment and run it.Antivirus companies say the worm will harvest e-mail addresses from your PC to mail copies of itself to additonal recipenants, and it will also send information captured from applications you have open to certain e-mail addresses programmed into the malicious code .Miamail C so far has been rated a "medium" level threat .But it's only one worm. There have been - and will be - others. So what's the antidote to a virus-plagued digital world? The problem for most users is that Windows computers are vulnerable to plagues of biblical proportions:viruses that bring down entire networks,e-mail worms that replicate at lightening speed,Trojan Horses that hide inside otherwise innocent programs, hackers that take over computers, and more.
Here are some guidelines:
1.Remember thy antivirus software and keep it updated
2Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's attachments
3.Avoidith bogus file downloads
4.Smite spyware and popups
5.Thou shalt foil spammers
6.Keep thy operating systems patched
7.Maketh a rescue disk and keep it handy
8.Be not taken in by false claims
9.Honor thy firewall
10.Maketh backups and keep them holy
I hope that this info will help you protect your computer from this virus STACEY GIRL

I picked up this virus or trojan as McAfee calls it. I got it on 30 Oct. It attached itself to the SVINIT.exe file. It took two days running virus scan 8.0 to finally get rid of it. I got the virus before McAfee even knew about it. They finally updated their program and had me run the scan while in the Windows Safe Mode. It worked. It also got rid of a lot of undesireable files that attached themselves to my hard drive. Such as Lava soft ad-aware files. These are the spam generator files. Now that they are gone so are a lot of the spam messages that I used to get. I only a couple a day now.

THIS I GOT FROM ANOTHER GROUP. BE ADVISED. IT COULD BE A HOAK, BUT AGAIN ! !
VIRUS alert WORST VIRUS EVER --- CNN ANNOUNCED PLEASE SEND THIS TO
EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST A new virus has just been discovered that
has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This
virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has
yet been developed. This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard
disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored. This virus
acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically to all
contacts on your list with the title "A Card for You" As soon as the
supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that the user
has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are
pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the
hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New
York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an
employee of Microsoft itself. So don't open any mails with subje ct: "A
Virtual Card for You." As soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if
you know the sender!!! Please pass this mail to all of your friends.
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people,
like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at all.
