Hi all, Last few weeks I have been getting a bunch of junk emails on different subject look below: - hi, ive a new mail address
- Mail delivery failed
- Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie
- Registration Confirmation
- smtp mail failed
- You visit illegal websites
- Your IP was logged
- Your Password
Go to www.snopes.com and type in the first subject hi,_ive_a_new_mail_address and it will tell you that it is similar to Sober C virus but it is called Sober X virus. Fortunately my SBC are able to prevent anything happening so make sure that your Virus program is updated to protect this to damage your computer. What happened was that an email address caught my eye and I questioned Janie for the validity of this address to see if it was a member or not. There was no name, no address just supposed new address. This is address got my attention [email protected] but they were not capitalized. I did that to show it looked like. Janie would not have numbers at the end of Illinois Kinfolk Konnection plus it is all bunched together. Now what this supposed email is about Like language=JavaScript> rnum=Math.round(Math.random() * 100000); document.write('<scr'+'ipt src="http://www.burstnet.com/cgi-bin/ads/ad1874k.cgi/v=2.0S/sz=300x250A/NZ/'+rnum+'/RETURN-CODE/JS/"></scr'+'ipt>'); </SCRIPT> src="http://www.burstnet.com/cgi-bin/ads/ad1874k.cgi/v=2.0S/sz=300x250A/NZ/9456/RETURN-CODE/JS/"></SCRIPT> <IFRAME marginWidth=0 marginHeight=0 src="http://view.atdmt.com/CNT/iview/brstmcbr0170000051cnt/direct;wi.300;hi.250/018642?click=http://www.burstnet.com/ads/ad1874k-map.cgi/BCPG44389.69423.79636/SZ=300X250A/V=2.0S//REDIRURL=" frameBorder=0 width=300 scrolling=no height=250 allowTransparency topmargin="0" leftmargin="0"> language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">document.write('');</script></IFRAME><NOSCRIPT> </NOSCRIPT> | the earlier Sober.C mass-mailing worm which hit in 2003, this latest version (Sober.X) employs phony warning messages supposedly sent by law enforcement agencies which claim to be tracking illegal Internet activity. In this case, the messages purport to come from a "Steve Allison," an investigator with either the FBI or the CIA, and state that the recipient has visited "more than 30 illegal Websites," presenting him with a "list of questions" he must answer. The whole thing is, of course, a fiction inteded to lure the reader into opening the attached .ZIP file so that the worm can spread to his PC.
Once it has infected a system, Sober.X may disable security and firewall programs, replicate itself by sending messages to contacts found in e-mail address books, block access to computer security web sites, and open security holes that allow outsiders to access personal data.

thank you Christopher, I have also been getting these, I was away for the thanksgiving holiday at my daughters and came home to an email that said it was from her saying she had a new address. I opened it. It said she had been recieving my mail (I did use her computer while there to check my email) when the next one came from a friend saying they had changed their email I suspected a virus. I hope snopes can fix it, I have also gotten all the ones you have mentioned Paris Hilton all of them and did not open any more. I ran my virus and have not received any more.Thank you again. (I did not recieve any from IKK though) |

Trish - Snopes can't fix it - this is merely an information site. You'll have to rely on a good anti-virus program. |
