I received an e mail from someone today with the screen name of Richy_43@yahoo with the subject line to join One Great Family. I have never been solicited like this before - usually the e mail will reflect the site, i.e. One great Family, in this case. I didn't open it - but wanted to give a heads up to anyone that might receive this message, in case it was infected by some little toad playing games with innocent people... Leslie |

Motherof4, I seem to remember that we discussed One Great Family on this site. I believe it was in the link on different genealogy sites and are they worth the money. If memory is serving me correctly, it was a scam. M.O.M.

MOM;
OneGreatFamily is a mixed bag--weighing heavily toward the negative side. I personally opted oput of investing in it. The value you get out of it equal to the value of the family trees which have been submitted--most of which come with no provenance. I suspect that you can get at least as much value from Gencircles. Of course if there's a tree posted only on OGF, and it includes some of your ancestors, it changes your perspective a bit
There is some discussion in re this site on the Subscriptions board--a board which I owe at least two more write-ups by-the-way. As Tweety Bird used to say (I think) "I'm a baaaaaad boy!"
Cheers, Wayne

For anyone who gets emails from anywhere warning about computer viruses, you can go to McAfee.com. Click on the "Virus Information" tab. On the right side of the page is a Virus Information Search box. You can put key words there, or even the Subject from your received email. A lot of times, these are hoaxes, and you will find that McAfee has the text of your email practically word-for-word. Mother, your email address didn't produce any results, but I just remembered something. The other day, I got an email from someone whose address I did not recognize, but it was regarding something I had sent to someone else. THAT person's address was also in the "To" spot. I tactfully wrote back that it's not polite to send email to someone you don't know. He wrote back and apologized. He had accidently sent the email to me while trying to figure out his new email program! |

Wayne, I knew we had talked about that site. Glad to know my mind only wanders and hasn't left altogether. M.O.M.

Thanks to all that replied, I love the support on this site from the members - and to Janie, now I feel like a real dork! Sorry to Richard, if you are reading this. Usually, when I receive inquiries about surnames that I am researching, the person will put that surname in the subject field. Richard, if you are still out there, can you contact me through the general message board? That way, I won't be so skittish about opening your mail. Sorry, but I had no way of knowing who you were and I deleted your message. Last year, I lost all of my files because some little stinker thought that it was funny to hack my daughters e mail address and send me a virus. I hope you understand. And Wayne - I believe that you are right! Leslie |
