The Egg has been a symbol of the Universe and rebirth for a long time and there are many traditions surrounding them. Here are some of them-

In the days before you could buy nice packaged chocolate eggs, it was traditional to hard boil and then hand decorate a hens egg. It was then given away as a symbol of good fortune.

People thought that Witches could sail the sea in eggshells, so empty eggshells were always crushed or a hole was poked through it! It was also said that Fairies lived in eggshells.

If you had an egg with a double-yolk, this was thought to be very lucky, but if you found a red streak in the yolk, it was bad luck!

A raw egg still in its shell was used as a very old spell to prevent pregnancy. A needle with a red thread was passed through the egg lengthways and then knotted, the egg was then placed under the couples bed.
