Beliefs Of A Witch

 * We do not believe in or worship a devil, sacrifice animals or babies and children and we have nothing to do with Satanists.

* The Divine is both Male and Female and are equal in Balance and is referred to as being the Goddess and the God. It is one but made up of male and female elements both in ourselves-male traits being assertiveness and in control, female being sensitive and emotional.  On the earth we live on like the light, sun and daytime seen as male and the darkness and the Moon as female. Bringing the opposites together brings the balance of life.

 * We should respect Nature and care for our world and the things that grow upon it like the trees, plants and animals. Other ways to care for our world are- walking instead of using a car which gives out harmful pollutants, not throwing clothing away but passing it on or sending it to a charity shop, using recycling facilities and disposing of our litter in the proper places and not on the street, treating our pets and other animals with respect and giving them the care that they need.

* Everyone is entitled to their own informed choice of Spiritual Path, as long as they harm no-one else. This means that you are entitled to practice whatever you believe is right for you without being forced into making decisions of religion, spirituality or faith, but also that your choices do not bring harm to others. Witches do not look for converts and are happy to explain what they believe in and do but without forcing others to believe unlike many other faiths who seek people to convert and change.

 * Remember the Wiccan Rede: "An harm it none, do what thou will". Again this means that you should do what is right for you in your life, but in your choices you should try not hurt others, although there are times in life when you might make choices which are right for you but might hurt someone else, it is all about positive morality, moral judgement and to accept the outcomes.

* Remember the Law of Threefold Return or The Rule Of Three:" Whatever you do, be it good or ill, will be returned to you threefold". This means for example if you perform good magick, then good things will come your way but if you perform negative magick, bad things will happen to you. It is to make people think carefully about the magick they are about to perform and that the actions you take will be returned to you three times over, good or bad.

* The Wheel Of The Year and the 8 Sabbats, the seasons are celebrated as 8 festivals throughout the year at Samhain,Yule, Imbolg,Ostara, Beltane,Litha, Lughnasadh and Madron/Mabon.

* The Lunar Cycle or The Cycle Of The Triple Goddess. The phases of the Moon give us our months that make up the year as it changes through the seasons. These are known as the 3 aspects of the Goddess-The Maiden, The Mother and the Crone, representing beginnings, fruitfulness and rest.

* Our Actions, thoughts, feelings and words are our own responsibility. How we behave and the decisions we make are our own doing and no-body else’s fault.

* Personal Development. This means to study and learn the ways of the craft, by reading, asking questions and practising new skills, but the want to learn must come from within you.

* We are each our own Priestess or Priest. We believe that everyone has the right and the ability to communicate with the Divine (both the Goddess and God and other deities and aspects who do not have a gender or name) for themselves and do not need a go between like in many other faiths, who tell us who, what, why, how and when to worship them.

* We have other ways of finding knowledge such as the different forms of Divination. These are techniques and abilities that help us discover things that might of remained hidden and give us answers. There are many forms of Divination such as Scrying in the Dark Mirror, Tarot Cards and Astrology, being just a few.

* Witches practise Magick, which is using the force of will to make changes. There are lots of kinds of Magick such as for Healing, Protecting and Fertility.

* We believe in reincarnation and that life continues after death, our spirit goes to a place called the Summerlands. It is a place of rest, renewal and a time to look back on the mistakes we made in life and to reflect on what we need to learn in our next life.
