Familiars             Having a familiar is a common idea amongst Witches, but as they are not a requirement, not all have one.                 A familiar does not have to be a Black Cat, but can be any Animal of any species. Familiars can fill many different roles in your life, including that of a Teacher, Friend, Healer or Assistant. It may be in the form of a family pet, but are not treated as simply. They are independant spirits that must be respected and honoured. They have a stronge pyschic bond with you, and he/she/it will show a clear interest in your ritual work. Each persons relationship with their familiar is special and individual.                 So where do you find one? Sometimes they will find you, but sometimes you may need to search out your familiar. You can not summon a familiar, only invite one. A couple of ways this can be done is by Meditation or Scrying. They may turn up in your life when you call or just when you are need of them.                 A familiar does not have to be a physical being, having an Astral familiar is also possible. They too can take on the form of regular animals, but can also be such beasts such as a Dragon or Unicorn.
