At Samhain it is normally the custom to make a jack-o-lantern from a hollowed out pumpkin. This began with the Irish custom of using hollowed out cabbages or turnips. The original purpose for jack-o-lanterns was to frighten away evil spirits. So you can use your Samhain pumpkin with a little candle magic to frighten away negativity and bad luck.
Recommended are black, patchouli-scented votives in holders, these should be available in art and craft/department shops. Patchouli is a protective scent and has a lovely musky, spicy aroma.
Carve a face on your pumpkin, or any witchy design you prefer. Place the candle holder and scented votive inside, as you light the candle, repeat the following charm 3 times:
Bright pumpkins that glow, and scented candles of black,
Send bad luck away, turn negativity back.
By all enchantment of three times three,
Lady hear my spell on this hallowed Eve.
Blessed Be.
