Sybil Leek 1923-1982 Sybil Leek claimed to be a hereditary Witch of Irish and Russian descent, she was born with the birthmark sign of a Witch, tracing her family tree back to A.D 1134. She took special pride in being descended from Molly Leigh an Irish Witch who died in 1663.As did Molly, Sybil also had a pet Jackdaw who she went around with, perched on her shoulder. When she was 8 years old Sybil met Aleister Crowly and spent time mountain climbing with him. She said that Crowly taught her certain words to use, when working magick. Sybil grew up in the New Forest, , Hampshire in England. In her early 20's Sybil lived with the Gypsies in the New Forest and learned a great deal about herbal potions and Gypsy Lore and Tricks. In the 1950's Sybil lived in the village of Burley, where she could be seen walking around the streets, wearing her long black cloak with her pet Jackdaw on her shoulder. She wrote many books and was also a reporter on television, but it brought her fame and after being inundated with people wanting to see a "real witch", she moved to America, where she died in 1982. There are several Witchcraft shops in the village of Burley today, sybil named one of them The Coven Of Witches Gift Shop, where you can see her photo on the wall. Sybil's son Julian is constructing a building in Florida USA, to hold and display her memorabilia and many of her students still practice Witchcraft to this day. There are still Witches in the New Forest area today, but they live quietly as not to be stereotyped. Sybil did a great deal to promote a positive image of the Old Religion, as both an author and a lecturer throughout England and North America. |
