Pomanders

Pomanders make great air fresheners, ornaments and moth repellents. They are easy to make and only take about 15 minutes. They last for years!

You will need:
- some oranges
- some orris root or sandalwood oil
- a jar of whole cloves
- cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves
- a paper bag or bowl
- ribbons if you want to hang them
- a toothpick if you need help poking the holes

Push your cloves into the orange's peel, all over the orange. Leave a gap in between the cloves to account for shrinking (about 1/4 inch). Mix your herbs in the bag or bowl along with a touch of orris root or a few drops of sandalwood oil. Roll your orange in it until it's totally covered in spices, then let it sit in there.

Every day, check on your orange(s) and turn them to keep them covered in the spices. Your orange will shrink and dry out. If it gets moldy, throw it out and try again. This will probably not happen.

In a few weeks it will be completely dry, hard, small and light. You can use it as is or wrap ribbon around it to hang on your tree.
