Mini Re-union Oct 02 - Thought this topic deserved a thread if it’s own, rather than continue among all the other chit chat on ‘The Big 2003 Reunion?/P>

It has been proposed to have a mini re-union at the school, following a similar pattern to the one held in the spring.

Arrive mid day-ish Saturday, meal out Sat evening, overnight accommodation at the school (about £20 quid for B&B) find things to do for Sunday morning (open to suggestions) and go home.

Proposed dates:- Sat Oct 12th, 19th or 26th

Names so far:

Nick

Biggles

Allen

Below are cut & paste exerts of most of the relevant posts from within ‘the Big One?thread:-

Does anyone fancy a "Mini" one in the autumn, just to get the big one organised and have some good food and ale.

I think that now that Justy has vanished, we should collectively organise things.

Nick.

Nick, I'm probably up for that - as it stands at the moment I can manage any weekend in October, none in Nov or early Dec. My shift schedule is almost carved in stone.

I would like some input from Biggles 'cos I think he might be interested. I'd already suggested he come down for a visit in Oct.

I'm happy to organise a meal out on Saturday evening, like last time - I could also arrange a taxi in advance too!

So, lets start a list of those interested.

Nick

Allen (Me)

Regards,

Allen

Allen,

As soon as we get about a dozen, we will liase with Matron regarding rooms and fix a date, does that seem okay.

If you could take care of the victuals that would be excellent. I will bring some wine etc.(promise).

Nick.

Allen

October after the 6th looks OK at the moment.

Biggles

Nick, sounds good, though perhaps someone should pick one of the weekends, 'cos I'm sure not everyone who'd like to come can make all of them - and having chosen one, I can then start to schedule the hectic social whirl that is my life.... (merely because I have something like one month with every weekend off and one month will none!)

Biggles says not the first weekend - do we hear any preference 12/13th - 19/20th or 26/27th?

Dear Karl,
The meal we had was at Shureton the "Shureton Inn" Excellent pub.
I stayed in Gerry Warriner's old flat, very comfortable with Quantock's only working night storage heater & 1960's coal effect electric fire.
Matron is wonderful enjoy your visit & avoid John Rose if he is there.
All the best
Laurie

Allen,

I'm interested - have we settled on a date .... ?

Laurie pointed out that it would be great for those who want to help organise the big bash in 2003 to meet up for a war council - iron out all the details espically with Matron - dos and don'ts ... etc

Might I suggest the weekend of the 19th October, as it does not mess up Half-term and it will give us some time to organise things.

I may be quiet for a few days as a friend of mine was killed in a freak incident last Monday evening at Maidenhead, and I am looking for some solace.

Cheers,
Nick.

Any more takers? Weekend Oct.19th/20th fine by me, I know numbers are still low, but I will give Matron a call to check that the above dates are free.

I am away from Sept 18th through to 29th, so setting the date later in Oct gives ample time to organise meal and taxi - do we do the Surton Inn again or try the 'Ancient Marriner' (Was First & Last) in Nether Stowey? - I've not tried it since it changed hands, which coincided with the mini re-union in March, and they couldn't take the booking for our meal.

Regards,

Allen

Sorry, 19th Oct. is out. I spoke to Jane today (Matron) and the school is booked both for the 12th and 19th.

26th is free, as are dates in November, e.g. Nov 9th. though not good for me - I have a social invitation on Sat 26th - though may be able to move it, and am working every weekend in November.

How do people feel about the 26th - is the half-term a problem?

Allen,

It is not a problem with me, it is also the beginning of the half-term break so will not necessarily screw up other arrangements.

Nick.

Nick (& everyone else),

Doesn't sound like 26th is that good, certainly not for me, Biggles or Laurie.

I'm away on holiday for 10 days from tomorrow, see what consensus there is whilst I am away - even if the conclusion is that we leave it till the spring!

When I spoke to Jane I asked her to pencil the 26th in very lightly. If we are not goimg to go ahead, please could someone phone her to let her know?

Regards,

Allen

Ironically, I've got an Away Pass from Mrs Bri for the weekend of the 26th; however it's been issued in order to cover a 'lads weekend' with a coupla mates... Such Away Passes are a beurocratic and diplomatic nightmare, having to be signed in triplicate, stamped and sealed with wax made from the oil from the blood of a Quantock Goblin, obtained whilst the moon is in the ascendency of Saggitarius. (she's so good to me, is Mrs Bri..). These passes are non-transferrable, non-refundable and only valid on the day of issue.

Even more ironically, I'll actually be in the area - well, that's "in the area" compared to where I live now anyway - staying in South Devon/North Cornwall, just a short Nick Dykes' bus ride away..

As understanding as my mates are to my little foibles and pecadillos, I don't think that would extend to spending the weekend at my old school. The selfish gits. Still, that's Spurs fans for you..

Hello all,

Just back from Mourning and it seems that this event is going the same way as my late friend.
I think that we should re-schedule.

Nick.
