I would like to say about Big P, that he was dedicated to his school, his pupils and his vocation. I enjoyed his talks with me, and I visited a few times post 1975. He was always welcoming and I for one will miss him.

I think I was one of the few pupils that became a close friend. My mates used to call me a `bum lick` etc etc but it wasn`t a point scoring thing.
It started out when I became friends with Matthew (youngest son) who was the same age as the rest of our class. Cut grass for the animals, helped at the farm, camping by the all weather pitch, basically became best buddies. Not only was it fun in my spare time but I boosted my pocket money each week years later (think I got 50p an hour!) at the same time. Much of the workload was coming from Mr P and I think he was most thankful as most of us remember his long hours, working each day either in his office, activities, showers, walking his dogs etc.
He used to get up in the early hours (probably around 5 or 6am) and rest at the end of the day at around 2am, day in, day out! Don`t think many of us would hack that sort of pace for very long, I certainly couldn`t.
His dogs were his companions much of the time. Starsky: he was getting on a bit when I knew him, Heidi: she always seemed to be on heat 24/7! Anyone remember trying to get passed the Head`s office door would understand! She tried to take chunks out of my leg on several occasions!
I remember Mr Peaster as a close friend which seemed to have been brought on my the initial activities with Matt and these friendships helped me settle into the daily routine and provide variety during my spare times!
The news of his death hit me quite badly, probably harder than most ex-Q`s because of the friendship which had developed over the years and will remember him, probably for the rest of my life.
I expect most would agree that the experiences at school play the biggest part in what we have all become today.
Rest in Peace!

Justin Cooper.

Mr Peaster was a man who on first meeting seemed very cruel, but once I got to know him, was very friendly and kind to me. When he caned me it was a very light tap almost as if he was playing a joke. Once he caned me and I asked "Why I've done nothing wrong SIR ?" he replied "Because I've got a new cane". Some people might think this very cruel/sadistic, but I saw the "Joke" and his little laugh, it didn't worry me at all. To me he was a man you could reason with, if I wanted to do something and his answer was "no" he would explain the reason, not like other teachers who say "Because I say so".
I will miss him as will many others.
Laurie Booth (General as he called me)

Am I confused - is this the Headmaster? I though the Heads name was Duncan - but then again it was 24years ago.
If it was the Head back in 1980 - I shed a tear or too when I shook his hand and said fairwell. He will always hold a special place in my memory as a fair and humourus Head - and also quite good at snooker, well seemed it to me during my time.
He will be sadly missed.
Many thansk for all your help - Gouch (Sean Goucher - 1974 - 80)

Sean,

See this pic -

This pic was taken in Jan 1986, when the snooker table had just been moved from the library. This is, in fact, the inaugu  Link

I believe David Peaster was the Headmaster of the School from its founding in the 60's till he died in about 1996-7. Duncan Peaster was the Head's eldest son, who now runs the pool and the sportshall as a gym

Hope this helps

Mike

I have really fond memories of Mr Peaster, I got on really well with him (as well as My Phil his brother) as did my best friend there Adrian Newell. He was always kind and funny on occasion. We both use to talk to him and have a laugh and of course help him out from time to time. From memory he was always kind and fair with everyone, unless they were really out of order.

I got on pretty well with Dunc as well as Richard, what ever happened to Richard and his older brother!?

I too have fond memories of Mr Peaster, although I was only at the school for less than two years or was that just over one year, and I hardly got to know the real Mr Peaster. I admit I was genuienly shocked to hear of his death, unfortunately a few years before I discovered this Quantock community, but suffice it to say for the short time I had the priviledge of being under his charge, he managed to instill many valuable lessons to me and I earnestly believe that his influence still guides some of my thoughts and actions. A fair man, a keen golfer and from what I recall, a good headmaster.

Better late than never. RIP

I remember the first time I beat him at chess. It took me about 4 years to actually win a game. We had some great games. He always whipped us at snooker though even after giving us a head start.

The thing I remember most about Mr Peaster was his sly humor. You didn't know sometimes if he was winding you up or being serious. Most of all though he was a true gentleman.

Thank you.
