An angel can be your "friend in need." These celestial beings, especially Archangel Michael, have been known respond to urgent requests for help for those who are in immediate danger with the call of "Please help me!" However, they seem to respond the fastest when they are addressed politely through prayer.

An angel is to be treated with respect, as opposed to a servant. Angels don't like to be bossed around. They tend to steer away from arrogant and flock to those who are humble, meek, or genuinely sorry. They also respond immediately to tears, as it is said "tears are prayers without words."

Angels are to be treated like guests who are invited into your heart. Like most guests they ignore those that are filled with aggression, anxiety anger and hostility. So before you call on an angel, it is important to meditate, and picture your heart or fourth chakra as a soft, tender, peaceful and welcoming place - the kind of place you'd want to stay for a while if you were a visitor from heaven.

Calling on an angel is as simple as saying the angel's name out loud. Talk to the angel like you would a treasured friend. Please don't treat an angel like a mean parent and do not be demanding. You should also be prepared to receive thoughts that don't quite fit in with what your ego thinks should happen.

It is also important not to feel panic or anxiety to your prayers or requests. This represents a lack of faith in the Universe. For instance, if you phrase a prayer saying, "I need more money," you might just manifest a number of situations where you need more money. Prayers are like affirmations. Keep your language in the present tense and use a phrasing that is a statement that your wish has already been granted.

Also, be careful what you pray for, especially when you pray for others. Pray for their highest good, as opposed to what you think is best for them.

It is also very important to end each prayer with the request, that all of those in the same need as you on the planet also be granted their requests.

End the prayer with an expression of gratitude, for all the things you already have and also for the blessings you are about to receive in the future.

If you are silent, respectful, fervent and loving, an angel will always give you the answer you need to solve your problem.

It is also important to make your request specific, and visualize what you would like if you can, but don't be attached to the outcome. Angels are agents of the Higher Power and like God, they work in mysterious ways.

Prayers or wishes that are attached to extreme emotions tend to achieve the opposite effect, although some would argue that great displays of grief or even self-abuse while praying guarantees greater results. Wailing and making demands does not seem to convince the angels of anything except the fact that you seem resistant to suggestion. You are so convinced that you know what is best that you cannot be convinced of anything else.            

It is the simplest of requests that work best. Don't agonize, don't justify and don't explain while you pray. If you attach anxiety to the prayer, the opposite will manifest. If it helps, pretend that you have the innocence of a small child, who is making his very first wish upon a star. That is the kind of purity of intention that is required of a conversation with an angel.

It is acceptable to follow the structure below and write your prayer down and read it. It is also good to read your prayer out loud if you choose to use this more formal method.

First of all clear your mind. Try to be relaxed as possible. Light a candle if you want.

First, you call all the angels:

In the name of _____ (insert one of the following - the one that feels best to you)

- The God (or Goddess) That is Within Me

- The Divine Imagination

- My Higher Power

- The Great Being of Light

- The I Am That I Am

I call to all the seven Archangels and their legions of light. I ask that all Seven Rays bless me with their divine guidance.

Then you call the specific angel:

I call on the Archangel  ______ (choose the appropriate Archangel) and his legions of light. (If you do not know which angel you want, that is okay too. Simply say, "I call on an angel!")

For the purposes of this exercise, we are going to use the Archangel Michael.

I ask for your ______ (fill in blank. In Michael's case you would say, "I ask for your protection.")

Then, make general requests that address the overall nature of the issues that replace all negatives with positive. For example, using the Archangel Michael:

I ask the angels for protection against losing my car and my job. I ask that all doubts about the future be replaced with faith that no matter what happens, all will be well.

Then you make a specific request:

I ask the angels to _______ (fill in the blank. This is where you describe specific situations that you would like fixed. For example, "I ask the angels to please resolve the problem at work and protect me from job loss. I ask the angels to please help me find the money to fix the brakes on my car so I don't have an accident."

Then, explain to the angels why YOU think the fulfillment of your request would be good for all.

I ask that this be done _______ (explain why. For example, "I ask that his be done because it would be bad news for everyone if I lost my job right now. I ask that my brakes be fixed as I can't get to work without the car and I do need to go to work!")

Then, you ask for more general qualities associated with the angel. Name anything that comes to mind that is associated with this angel and things WILL come to mind. Wish for improvements in the entire world.

I ask that _______ (fill in the blank).

Wish the same for everybody else who has a similar need to your own.  Say Amen and wait for the miracle to happen!
