This I can answer for you.  First of all, there is a name that you want to call yourself and there is a name that Great Spirit/Grandfather gives you. 

 

I, myself have 2 Cherokee Names.  One I call myself which is Silver RavenSpirit (which is also my Craft name), and one that Grandfather bestowed upon me.

 

I had a Vision Quest and received my second name.  That name is between Grandfather and me. 

 

I have been studying Cherokee Medicine for 40 years now.  I am a Cherokee SpiritCaller.  My Great Grandmother and Grandmother taught me, then I started learning on my own.

 

What I am getting from Grandfather Mara is that you are being prepared to receive your name.  It will be given to you in Dream Time.  Have a pen and paper near your bed so when you get it you can write it down. 

 

You have a great journey ahead of you, and I also see you animal spirit near you as well.  You need to relax.  Many messages are coming to you from your Ancestors.

i tell you how i got a name..... at my childrens kindergarten we had a man who "knew" all about natives, from all over....

we had camps...and one year we desided to go for it.... so we made " vision quests"

 

It used to be for 1-3 days ...but we did an afternoon or something...

 

the purpuse was to walk in the wilderness and just observe what happend and what you see.... just being in the nature..... not thinking .....

well it is a process of course....

 

after some time i got back and sat down to talk to " the elder" i told of my journey and alowly the name emerged....

He wanted to call me " laughing pine"

// i thought at that time that that was NOT a good name...not grand or beautiful..//

I later changed my name ....he he..

 

that name sure was medicine for me..and later to others....

 

the Native name you talk of i am not sure if we are talking about the same thing?? but never mind...

 

I took new names if something new or odd had happend in my life.... you take a name and then things happen....

 

if you are born Chrissy for instance, you might be Jaguar or cat later on.... to then be snow on hilltop or maybe hopefull frog or whatever....

 

the name will come to you.... either by itself or from somebody else.

You will know....

 

Just that you want a name.....makes the name come to you....

the name i have now is only an msn name  but seeked out long to get it..  till it hit me one day  the love of crystals  the love of dragons  and part of my email flame  caue im a leo  the element of fire   so  that was  a name i choosen till i seeked ut my true name..

 

when i learn of my real name i may or may not share its up to my grandfather   mother  but im sure id be able too...  its just a few more learnigs im sure in my path..    thank you everyone who has given me there thots on this its muchly appreciated..
