Day 20 of the Hunger Strike is where the death process starts. I am told that two of the strikers are monks from Gomang Monastery. |

On day 15, the hunger strikers were visited by Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche who appealed to them to end the fasting According to Rinpoche; “The movement can take many other forms, but giving up one's life is no good at all. If the value of giving up one's life is equal to the value of the outcome, then the option of giving up one's life may be perhaps considered. However, at this time, if one compares the loss of losing life with the gain of the outcome of the sacrifice, they do not balance.

Why don't they just blow themselves up like suicide bombers? |

Some actions still have an impact decades later. Don't look at the link if you are a particularly sensitive person. I think most people remember the photo. Quote: The Burning Monk on the Cover:The Monk's name is Thich Quang Duc, an elderly Buddhist monk, immolating himself on a main intersection in Saigon, Vietnam on June 11, 1963 to protest the rule of Ngo Dinh Diem, the American backed leader of Vietnam who was leading an anti-Buddhist campaign in southern Vietnam. This action was witnessed and filmed by many members of the American media and led to the end of the Diem rule in Vietnam. This photo won the 1963 Pulitzer Prize. |

I wish Cindy Sheehan and all the other anti-war protestors would do something like this. |

August 7th, Hunger Strike Still On The Dalai Lama wrote this in part of his letter to the hunger strikers. "The present indefinite hunger strike that you have undertakent with such unwavering courage and determination for the Tibetan cause which is entwined with Buddha Dharma is highly commendable. "Nevertheless, such an action is not only a form of violence but also-if we assess the present situation both inside and outside Tibet calmly and objectively-simply sacrificing the lives of more Tibetan people and is not likely to bring about the positive results we seek. "Instead of sacrificing precious human lives in this way, it would be of greater benefit and service to our cause by striving to continuously carry out this spirit of unyielding courage and determination form generation to generation. "The immense hardships you have all endured so far have fulfilled a key objective: it has attracted much publicity and caught the attention of the international community as well as inspired Tibetans living inside and outside of Tibet. "In light of this, I earnestly appeal to you all to discontinue your hunger strike immediately. I trust that you will give this request of mine serious consideration.

[quote] The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) called off its indefinite hunger strike at New Delhi on August 9, 2007 following a visit by Indian Parliamentarians, including former Indian Defence Minister Shri George Fernandez, assuring to raise the issue vociferously in the Indian Parliament and in compliance with the message from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual and temporal leader, to call off the strike. |

lol, the funny part is that though Yanukovich poisoned Yuschenko and that they were saying things at each other. One was called a criminal of russia, another a fascist of USA (the USA guy won btw :))))) thank God), but then one became president and another Prime Minister, and they one day shook hands and next day called themselves names. It 2 years (now) president had issued reforming of Pralamnet so we revote :)
As my history teacher said: revolution are thought of by dreamers, made by heroes, and used by bastards :) |
