THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: 9 people and they are billed as U2s / Bono remarks Stones concert / fans fight over white flag / "One Tree Hill" with their own voices / European Of The Year / Band Of The Year / 101st 'VERTIGO' show: dozen fans on stage with different flags-an unplanned 3rd encore / 130th VERTIGO SHOW - JAPAN-TOKYO: During "Mysterious Ways," Bono invited the three Kyoto girls to dance with him on stage, n full traditional wardrobe and makeup. Morleigh Steinberg ran alongside the women in the pit, directing them to dance with their fans!

"London Club" tour - december 4, 1979 - U2 perform in Islington, England. Only nine people show up for the gig in which they are billed as the "U2s". At one point, The Edge breaks a guitar string, and becomes so upset he leaves the stage. The rest of the band follows.

"October" tour - december 4, 1981 - U2 perform in Detroit, Michigan at the Royal Oak Music Theater. Bono remarks on the Rolling Stones concert at the Silverdome a few days earlier, "We thought everyone else was going to see that other great Irish Rock & Roll band...The Rolling Stones or something..."

"Pre-War" tour - december 4, 1982 - U2 perform in Birmingham, England at the Odeon. Bono throws his white flag into the audience, and several fans start a fight over it. Bono stops "Sunday Bloody Sunday" to announce, "When I throw a white flag into the audience, I don't expect anybody to fight for the white flag!" Bono's voice sounds strained in several songs, and it appears that his throat is bothering him. Support is "The Alarm".

"ZOO Tv: New Zooland / Japan" tour - december 4, 1993 - U2 perform the second of the "New Zooland" concerts in Auckland, New Zealand at Western Springs Stadium. In the city of "One Tree Hill" the crowd sing along with the song of the same name. MacPhisto phones a house on the hill opposite the stadium, where the owner is charging admission to watch the show.

Bono is named 'European Of The Year' - december 4, 2001 - Beating a host of political figures and industry leaders, Bono is named 'European of the Year' by European Voice magazine.

Spin magazine honors U2 as Band Of The Year - december 4, 2001 - Spin magazine announces that U2 has been named its Band of the Year for 2001. The honor is to be announced in the January, 2002, issue of the magazine.

101st 'VERTIGO' show - December 04, 2005 / Boston, MA - TD Banknorth Garden - Institute - dozen fans on stage with different flags / an unplanned 3rd encore! City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Elevation, I Will Follow, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - In a Little While, Beautiful Day, Original of the Species, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday - Rock the Casbah, Bullet the Blue Sky, Miss Sarajevo, Pride, Where the Streets Have No Name, One. Encore(s): Until the End of the World, Mysterious Ways, With or Without You, Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of, Yahweh, Bad - 40, All Because of You, Fast Cars. Bono sings bits of 'Sgt. Pepper's' and 'Here Comes the Sun' during Beautiful Day, changing the lyrics ('there goes the sun') to reflect the cold, snowy weather outside. Bono thanks Ashley Judd, who's at the show, for her work with the ONE Campaign. During One, Bono brings about a dozen fans on stage with different national flags tied together and they stand behind Larry holding the flags up as a backdrop. U2 comes out for an unplanned 3rd encore, playing All Because of You and Fast Cars to a shocked crowd made up of fans that haven't already left. Many fans, including some getting in the GA line for tomorrow's show, miss the end of the show. **** Photos on: U2tours / flickr

Backstage shots before showtime in Tokyo. Eric Clapton was at the final Tokyo show on Monday and chatted with Edge and Larry before they went onstage. The band and Paul McGuinness were also presented with awards from their Japanese record company for sales of 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'.  Look for: Edge, Larry and Clapton * the prize for U2 * U2 receiving the prize * U2 and Paul McGuinness.  Wake Up - City Of Blinding Lights / Vertigo-She Loves You (Snippet) / Elevation / Out Of Control / I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For / In A Little While / Beautiful Day / Angel Of Harlem / The First Time / Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own / Bad-Ruby Tuesday (Snippet) / Sunday Bloody Sunday / Bullet The Blue Sky-When Johnny Comes Marching Home (Snippet)-The Hands That Built America (Snippet) / Miss Sarajevo / Pride (In The Name Of Love) / Where The Streets Have No Name / One / Encore: The Fly / Mysterious Ways (w/ 3 geishas on stage) / With Or Without You / The Saints Are Coming / Window In The Skies / Vertigo. 'Out Of Control' in Tokyo - Out of Control, from 1979, was in the set tonight, along with Window in the Skies, set for release in January, 2007. And the Japanese audience for the final show in Tokyo also got Vertigo twice. Focused on paying respect to the country and its people. Early in the show, Bono expressed the band's genuine love for the country, noting they had a wonderful stay in Tokyo. Bono spoke of his visit to Kyoto, where he toured the Church of Light, designed by Tadao Ando. Bono was so charmed by Kyoto that he brought back three of its residents to Tokyo with him for the final show. During "Mysterious Ways," Bono invited the three to dance with him on stage. Mouths dropped open when they saw Bono's guests were geishas (perhaps actually maikos [geishas in training]) in full traditional wardrobe and makeup. Morleigh Steinberg ran alongside the women in the pit, directing them to dance with their fans, to the delight of the audience and Bono, who grinned from ear to ear. At the song's conclusion, he bowed to them sweetly. Another highlight of the show was a particularly moving performance of "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own," which Bono dedicated to his father and the fathers of his friends Gavin and Guggi, who watched the show from the mix desk.
