Hi Bleggy,

I NEED to buy a new Computer . . . and I already have a little Mac iBook - which I love - it is so trouble free.

However, I need to be able to run my DIGGER discs and they do not seem to be compatible with the Mac. The iBook is working an an older OS than the new LEOPARD that has just been released by Apple.

Can you tell me if my DIGGER discs will run on a MAC - or are they only a Windows based program??

Many thanks

Jenn

Jenn, Did you get any responds to your query? I am interested in the MAC Desktop too. I have been reading about the latest one and it say's you can run Windows on it now. So you may be able to use your Digger software on the MAC via Windows. If you find out anything please respond to this thread as I am interested too.  lemc33

Hi lemc33,

No, I haven't received any responses as yet. However, I have been doing my homework in the mean time. I have a friend who knows everything (well almost) about APPLE MACs. Of course he did not know about the DIGGER discs or FAMILY TREE Programs - but he put me in touch with a woman from one of the Universities who owns a MAC and who does Family Research.

Briefly, the new MAC just released with PANTHER will read any Windows program - it is built into the new system - so no need for any additional programs! It will also read the DIGGER discs - YAY!! But just to be sure, I am taking a DIGGER disc into COMPUTERS NOW in MALVERN and going to ask them to give me a demo.

I will certainly keep you informed if I get any other information. I am quite excited about getting my new MAC . . . but I have to wait for my 'MAC expert' friend to do his usual looking into the ins and outs of the new PANTHER Program before he buys his and mine together so we get the best deal.

Regards

Jenn

Jenn,

That all sounds very promising. So exciting. Like you I want to do my homework first before I take the plunge.

Thank you for filling me in and please get back to this thread if you find out any news.

Best Wishes,

lemc33

Ooops lemc33 . . . read 'LEOPARD' as the new MAC OS System - not Panther - that is the current one.

Hi lemc33,

What a cute little LEOPARD . . .

I am excitedly awaiting the arrival of my new MAC DESKTOP PC . . . should be here late this week or early next week. They are just waiting on the wireless keyboard and mouse to arrive.

I also had my little MAC iBOOK upgraded with the new LEOPARD OS late last week . . . it is brilliant.

I bought the REUNION Family Tree Program for MACS last week too . . . but haven't had time to really look at it yet. I will let you know how it all goes. I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Regards

Jenn

Thank you for filling me in there Jenn. So glad there is a GENEALOGY Program to use with the Mac. Thanks for giving me that information. I am hoping to get my Mac in the new year.

Can you suggest a reliable place to buy the Mac?

Hi lemc3,

A friend of mine in MELBOURNE did a great deal and bought three MACS at the same time. However, he has now wangled a deal to get further MACS at BASE Price. So if you want one let me know and he can order exactly what you want. Not sure where you live - but I am sure the shipping cost would still make it a cheaper deal for you than buying it direct from a MAC Agent. If you are really really nice - he could probably fit it with a few free programs too.

Regards

Jenn

WOW! That sounds promising. I would most definitely be interested. I would like to discuss it with you further privately. If you have my private email address at Management feel free to email me as I don't have yours. I will let Enforcer know if you don't .
Many Thanks, lemc33

Hi lemc3,

I am sure ENFORCER will pass on your email addy to me. Maybe we can convert her to a MAC too?? By the way, my elderly friend in MELBOURNE does not get any kick back from any of this. He is just one of God's Gentlemen and likes to help people. There is nothing he doesn't know about MACs too.

Regards

Jenn
