  • Roma Dawn PHEFLEY nee SIMMONDS

  • Our Mum born 1928 was Roma Dawn Simmonds,
  • She changed in 1948 to Phefley for the love of Jim,
  • She grew up in the bush on farms, and she had a love for life,
  • To her brothers and sisters she was Cookie,
  • But to us she was just Mum, and later Granny then Great Granny,
  • She kept us all together, she cooked and cleaned and loved,
  • Hard work could never daunt her; it seemed on it she thrived,
  • We remember Mum, the fun times, when rolling on the ground,
  • With laughter ringing from us, and tears were in our eyes,
  • Oh Mum you did a great job of raising us to be,
  • The people and families we are today, we hope a credit to you,
  • The squash games every Friday night, until you wore me out!
  • Then sport was tennis sometimes golf I watched with you on TV.
  • We remember too the music, you played Elvis rather loud!
  • The words rang out and around the house; "Let me be your teddy bear".
  • But right now Mum the words he sang that mean the most to me.
  • Are "No matter what the world may say about me,
  • I know your love will always keep me, true
  • I love you for a hundred thousand reasons,
  • But most of All I love you cause you’re you".
  • At the family birthday party with all the family there,
  • I know you must have looked around at your loved ones gathered there,
  • You looked and saw a family cohesive all as one.
  • Your family all together, your family having fun,
  • Did you know right at that moment that it would be, the last,
  • Time we would be together with you before you passed.
  • I'm so glad Mum I gave you that box of chocolates as you left,
  • I'm glad I said "I love you" and didn't leave my words unsaid,
  • Now your family knows, that right now Mum, you’re in a better place,
  • With no more pain or sickness, you’re enfolded in Gods embrace,
  • So we will be ok Mum, until we meet again,
  • Our happiness gave you permission to leave your pain behind.
  • And so by roses covered we say to you a fond goodbye,
  • No don't ask what the roses are for Mum,
  • They are just 'cause we love you.
