Hi
I started doing my family tree early 2007 after the death of my Grandfather. I have such a small family on one side and never really knew the other side but this wonderful trip I have taken has given me more 'family' than I have ever known (many not even related - just the lovely people that have helped me along the way). I have become very much addicted to this search for my ancestors.
I have had some wonderful discoveries along my way, no one famous, just that its been nice to find so many ancestors. The best would have to be the book a distant relative told me about that was written about much of our family "A Lot about a Little". Each new discovery starts me off on a new tangent. I have only done one side of my family so far, the other side being Germany/Poland/Prussia and I don't speak the lingo, I also don't have the time at present.
I am not only doing this tree for myself but as a heritage for my children. I have 4 young kids, 7, 5, 2 and 2 months old. I don't get a heap of time to do this but manage to catch a few snippets when all are sleeping.
Anyway to all you fellow searchers, good luck and kind regards

Hi Kathfarr1, Like you I am doing the research for my girls sake. Even though they are not interested at the moment (they are 19 and 21) I have ordinary anglo/Irish/Scots, but their father's side has some mystery and I can't seem to stop searching for clues. In particular I am loooking for Von Hammer, Deale (sth Africa), Mclymont (invercargill NZ), there could be a novel in there somewhere. Goode Luck
