Adele is surfing, having a day off today, a bit here and there, in the garden as well, just found Skut's message about me, thanks matie!! Perhaps I should nosey around sites more often, see what people are saying about me... will give you the low down now... probably about time too.
Born and bred in dear old LONDON, 1943 born at HAMPTON COURT, gosh that looks good on my passport too!! Educated at private schools, tried boarding school at 8 years, wasn't for me, so parents had to relent and send both daughters to the day school part of this lovely old school in UPPER NORWOOD Didn't do well at school, well someone had to come last, the position was always reserved for me, but when I visited the school a few years ago, I told them, Adele is like wine and cheese, matures with age! I left UK in 1970, to WELLINGTON, NZ. one of the Department Stores there, paid my way to work in the store for them, loved it. Met a Kiwi and returned to UK (SURREY) to wed, returned to NZ in 1976 to stay. Now out of the Capital, in a rural area of CLAREVILLE, since widowed in 2000, I was given a computer by my family, this is when I started learning NZ history. Researching CLAREVILLE Cemetery, would you believe we have buried there, The First Registered Nurse in the World? Ellen DOUGHERTY, I have her photograph and the family book etc. I love learning NEW ZEALAND history have uncovered many a tale, one day perhaps the book will be written. I will go around any cemetery to help others find a grave and photograph it for them, if no headstone, still do the plot, I am currently researching FEATHERSTONE Military Cemetery, 150 soldiers died of influenza in 1918, served in GALLIPOLI, EGYPT, FRANCE returned home, sadly caught the terrible Influenza bug and died, one soldier I have written about, but he died in 1916, was the Gt Grandson of John KING, first Missionary to NEW ZEALAND in 1814, yes 1814, I love cemeteries, reading headstones, learning about the buried, that's all for now thanks, yes in remission, long may it last. I have a lot of reference books for NZ, so always here to help anyone, just ask. Skut is referring to BROCKENHURST Churchyard, where NEW ZEALAND soldiers lie buried from WW1, attended the ANZAC Day Service there back in 2004, laid a wreath there too, ST. NICHOLAS Churchyard. I have the list of soldiers buried there, also FEATHERSTON ones, these are also photographed, and COMMONWEALTH War Graves Commission have it on a CD as well, did it for them, a lovely thank you letter from them, I hold many a local Family Book to help in my research, WILTON, NEICH, STRAWBRIDGE, MCPARTLAND, RAYNER / DAYSH book, and a huge database of names, always helping put others in touch with people doing the same name..(ps Tried getting on local council three years ago, never mind, didn't get there, but it was a challenge!) PENTONY is my maiden name, and GRAHAM married, so put two together, hyphenated.. looks better than just GRAHAM doesn't it! have some stock outside, hens, goat and friends sheep, cat sadly lost my last remaining poodle last year, no more, too much of a tie, if I want to get away at any time.
CARTERTON is 150 years old this year, 2007, so arranged a Commemoration Service for the Early Settlers at the Cemetery Chapel on 8th September, wonderful, not only for the ones that are buried there, but also for the ones that settled elsewhere after leaving CARTERTON, time they were all acknowledged.
