I am not sure just where this will go....but yesterday i kept my word and started working on emptying out those shelves i talked about...putting all the tools and "stuff" in another cabinet...but there needs to be more shelves put in the other cabinet where things are going...its all wood so i need to mount brackets for new shelves right? ok! i sat there trying to figure out the best way to do this...thinking am i strong enough to use screwdriver at odd angle or will it get ticked and all upset....i know this seems trivial but i have worked like a man most of my life and was almost as strong....nowdays i see my strength slowly disappearing even though i lift some weights to try to keep my muscles strong.....this project is very important as it is the beginning of several that I will have to do involving getting ready for carpenters to work in the room i am emptying out....if i involve my son or son in law i will have to hear them rebuke everything i want done and they will want to do it a whole lot different....then i will get all ticked off and forget the whole thing....this i dont want to do!....i guess they dont think i have a brain that can think... maybe its a matter of pride...but i did take pride in the fact that i needed no help with things and i liked knowing that i could do things...i love working with wood and tinkering with things like this.... i suppose if god wanted me to be a man he would have made sure i still had all those muscles but i grew up with a hammer in one hand and screwdriver in other and played in plaster and wet concrete...so i am not the usual female...i dont seem to fit anywhere these days....but i am trying...and i am going to work on that cabinet today i just hope it goes ok....Sassy |

Hi Sassy! So how is your project coming?? Were you able to accomplish what you wanted to without having to ask for help from "the guys?" Hon, I know what you're going through!! I raised my son all by myself so I became pretty proficient in alot of "man things" such as carpentry, elec. wiring, plumbing, etc., etc.,etc. Nowadays with my body not wanting to co-operate with me any longer, the men in my life think it's funny to watch me get all frustrated before I'll ask them for any form of help. I finally blew-up at my son and one of his buddies about 2 weeks ago because they were sitting on their lazy butts chuckling between themselves about me and my "methods" but not offering any suggestions or help. Lordy but I lit into those two!! I'd venture to say that there will probably NEVER be anymore testosternone parties in my household again!! LOL!!! They started telling me that what I wanted done just wasn't possible. Well now I knew better than that because I had done it several times and just couldn't remember how I had worked it out is all. Needless to say, they both finally hushed up when I told them how to do it and it worked out fine! LOL!! I don't think guys bother to stop and think that we're just a different breed of women and if they would give us half a chance they could learn a few things from us. I know that I have to let them feel that they're the one's that came up with the solution, but if they're going to continue to put me down and basically try to tell the world that I'm the idiot, then I'm going to prove to them that they're the idiot and not me. Don't let them get you down g/f!! Every now and then my son will break-down and admit that I've got more going on in my brain than he thought I did. BUT....don't ask a man to admit that in front of anyone outside of you!! If you do?? The next things you know you will be trying to break down his ego. (rolling eyes). MEN!! Ya gotta love them!! |

that project is taking a back seat for a few days cause i have these buckets of tomatoes to can...i still have 3 tall white buckets like dry wall paste comes in full of ripe tomatoes and i just put 14 qts on to cook and i have a 6 qt pan of tomatos i am cooking down for making chili tomorrow to freeze for eating this winter that only emptied out one bucket not sure what i am going to do with the other 3 lol....all those have to come first... that room will be on going i am switching my laundry room to another room and the old laundry room will be a new bathroom but i have to find places for some other things and make sure it all will work....i have plans all drawn up...not only do i have my son in law and son to rebuke me but i have my carpenter brother in law...that will tell me it cant be done....but he is mellowing with age i think...cause the last project with him went well lol....so this will take quite a bit of time and planning to get it right....i think i have most of it all figured out....sure hope so lol.... ya know i think life would have been easier if i had been the boy that dad wanted lol...hmmmm but cant imagine dating a girl lol lol....oh what a thought lol....hugs Sassy |

You should be very proud that you have the ability and talent to do all this. Sounds like lots of work to me honey. But good for you, great going. I know that it will get done and you will be so proud of it. I was just wondering what made you decide to do all this changing of rooms? Have you had it the way it is for very long time? Just questions that come into my head. Don't overdo though and go slowly, well as much as you can. Hope you don't get many more things dropped off to take your time from your big project.  |

cylene....when we moved in there was a small room that was suppose to be my sewing room but i outgrew it before i got moved in lol....so it became a storage room.... now that my legs are giving me trouble i need a shower and the other bathroom dont have one, just a tub....the laundry room is perfect for a bathroom....i think i have room for a large shower maybe for 2  in the new bathroom.....dont have to change structure to make it work ....sooooooo i am moving the laundry room to the storage room....so have to clean out storage room and make the laundry room fit in there....but it will be better i think....i have a small closet that i can convert to a broom closet and relocate the coats into the 9 ft closet that will be in the new laundry room...all this is still in same area... |

Risi, I just wanted to add that your son and son-in-law should give you some respect. It's your house not theirs and what you want done in it should be paramount not them imposing their ideas on your space. As for men and their fragile egos...crikey. I too grew up tomboy and even around this house I've done all the painting and alot of yard and house fixing up. I used to put up fences, cabinetry etc. Grew up doing it. The only time my father noticed me at all was when I was helping him with a project. As a child I used to arrange myself as half fallen out of bed then fake being asleep so that when he'd come to check on me at night he'd have to pick me up and put me back into bed again. Dads don't realise how much we need them to approve of us. Mind you I quit that chase years ago; my thoughts on him now aren't printable! How times change. Losing even the ability most days to hold a paintbrush has robbed me of so much accomplishment and satisfaction. I do sympathise with all your plans and I hope you get to do them. They are utterly beyond me, I'm pushing myself to even do this today. I was SOOOOO impressed with all your canning by the way...BRAVO!!!!  TIN  |

hi tin... thanks for the good words about my canning....back when i learned all that it was necessity...we were stretching the almighty dollar as far as it would go and everylittle thing helped lol.... i was with my dad constantly when i was growing up...i think it broke his heart in a way when i started to become a girl but we worked together good and had many projects together even after i got married....i wish he was here today....many things i would like to discuss with him...maybe cry on his shoulder a little at times...i need comforting now and then cant seem to get much from the kids. as far as son and son i n law and respect...that is the trouble i have done things my way for so long without help now they think i cant think either lol...but their thoughts are...."if i have to do the work i want to do it my way or the highway"....could be that is way men think i have no idea lol......Sassy |

oops i wasn't done yet!!!!!....i am finding out tin that i can find gratification in other areas and learn new skills here and there....yeah after the kicking and screaming is over cause i cant do what i used to do....i still do my share of that..and i will most likely keep trying to do them...keep pushing tin....the day you quit and give in is the day you start to die....and believe me you have a lot to live for.....i envy you....its too quiet here without a companion to harrass and pick on..... ...Sassy |
