Missed this one, came out in October 2006....The Last Wife of Henry VIII: A Novel by Tudor historian Carrolly Erickson. Erickson is the author of such Tudor history classics as Mistress Anne & Bloody Mary, in case the name doesn't ring a bell. This is definitely going on my Tudor Wish List as I've always enjoyed Erickson's writings. Read more HERE at Amazon. |

Carrolly Erickson is apparently hanging around with Philippa Gregory, as The Last Wife of Henry VIII makes Gregory's historical liberties seem tame by comparison. I really expected a more true to the facts novel from a respected historian like Erickson. She had several events taken out of their timeframes completely, & had Catherine Parr doing stoopid things like engaging in an affair with Thomas Seymour whilst Henry was still alive & she was still married to him, which would be an insane thing for her to do. Catherine Howard, the wife who preceded her, was executed for treason & adultery for getting caught with HER lover, & I don't think Catherine Parr was so lacking in intelligence not to learn from this. |

Did Catherine and Seymour have a relationship... ? I think I saw a program where they did and was there a child ? It even suggested that she haunts a residence... |

I've never heard that there was anything between Catherine Parr and Thomas Seymour during Henry VIII's lifetime. She was eager to marry Seymour after Henry died, but I've never heard of there being anything between them while Henry was still alive. Marrying Seymour was a disaster all round, leading to the scandalous business with Elizabeth, and eventually to Catherine's death in childbirth. It wouldn't surprise me at all if she haunted somewhere, Sudeley Castle I suppose it would be, isn't that where she died? Louise |

Catherine Parr is buried at Sudeley Castle, so I would assume that's where she went for her lying-in, as it was Seymour's principal seat. She actually died, much like Jane Seymour before her, after the birth of her daughter, from the ubiquitous "childbed fever". |
