I just got the book The Last Boleyn yesterday.
It's written from Mary Boleyn's perspective.
The author is Karen Harper. So far, it's been a good read.
Has anyone else read this book?
I'd love to hear feedback on it.
I'm enjoying it so far, but anything to do with the Tudor time
I just love.
I've collected so many books, I'm thinking about going to
a small used book store here and see if I might be able to trade other books for these. My books are in excellent shape, so hopefully I won't have a problem
doing it. I trade books with my daughter-in-law, she also loves this era.
Anyway, I hope to hear from anyone about thier opinion on this book.

I have this book.  I read it quite awhile ago, but remember enjoying it.  It is from Mary's point of view which made it new and interesting.  Without giving away too much, it really tells how Mary and George supported Anne in holding of sexual contact with Henry and the stresses of doing that.

It is a great book very entertaining.

One word of advise, if you love your Tudor books I would not trade, sell or give them away.  I have done that a few times and have not been able to replace some of them.  Now I have a huge collection with some hard to find titles and would not trade them for the world.  Still, I have not replaced some other volumes I got rid of.

Enjoy "The Last Boleyn" let me know what you think when you are done!

"holding off"  sexual contact with Henry.  Sorry for the typo.

I read it just last year, after reading TOBG...Found it to be excellent, sticking more to the actual events and when they happened, as we know them to be. I know you will enjoy it...Happy reading!

Greensleeves,
It was your review I learned of  "The Last Boleyn", then knew it was a 'must read'. There are several other novels you gave a 'book report' on, I then ordered...The "Mademoiselle Boleyn" came in the mail yesterday, only read a few pages so far, it is another one I only know of thru AMT, and will enjoy it very much. I haven't been let down yet after reading a book suggested by you or another group member!

Robin Maxwell really isn't a bad Tudory novel author.  The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn was also very well done, as is her book on Grace O'Malley, The Wild Irish.  I liked The Last Boleyn particularly because it was such a refreshing contrast to the dreck that was TOBG.  I don't get how Philippa Gregory writes such dreadful Tudory novels, I really don't.  I've read & enjoyed some of her earlier novels   She has a 2-vol series on a man who worked as head gardener to the Stuart kings that is wonderfully done & reasonably accurate (Earthly Joys & Virgin Earth), so I don't get why her Tudory books are so sensationalized & take such gross historical liberties.  Judy, if you haven't yet gotten to Queen of Subtleties by Suzannah Dunn, now there's an interestingly done Anne Boleyn novel as well.  I yesterday just ordered The Sixth Wife, her latest novel, which of course is on Catherine Parr (not to be confused with the earlier Jean Plaidy incarnation), & the Joanna Denny bio of Catherine Howard

I have quite a collection of Tudor novels around and I am always interested in finding new ones (even tho they all end the same way).  I keep hoping maybe Henry will forgive Anne Boleyn at the last minute and send her to a nunnery.  Silly me.  I wish I could change history.  I think they were a bit harsh don't you?  LOL

Tudorgal....you were right!
It was a really good read. I quite enjoyed it.
I've also thought about what you said about keeping
all of my Tudor books. I think I agree with you there too.
I'm the kind that can re-read a book if i like it.
I just wish Mary had been a bit more forceful when men
walked on her. But, then again, she WAS in a fairly precarious
situation. 20/20 hindsight here...  lol
I was glad that Mary finally got what she truly had
wanted all along. Even though it was a rocky road.
It was also a good read to see that she and Anne finally
buried the axe..(no pun intended)...
Kudos for her!
