Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village), daughter of director Ron Howard, will play the title role in Warner Independent Pictures historical drama Mary Queen of Scots, reports Variety.

Written by Jimmy McGovern (Priest), the film will chronicle the rise to power of the Catholic queen. The movie was put together by Scott Free and the BBC, with Ridley Scott and David Thompson involved in producing capacities.

WIP is about to hire a director and will shoot "Mary" beginning in March in Europe.

She's a very good little actress.  I saw her in The Village.  She was good.  The movie sucked.
