I just watched "Elizabeth The Golden Age" on DVD last night.  I had wanted to see it in the theaters but here in the US, at least where I live, it only stayed a week.

I liked the movie for the sequel it was.  I believe Kate Blanchett make for a great Elizabeth.  She did very well as the young Bess in the first movie, and did a fine job as the more seasoned Elizabeth in Golden Age.

Any thoughts on this movie, other than the typical historical inaccuracies?

Yesm I thunk they got the MQOS execution all wrong my good self   Though I did enjoy the bit where Elizabeth smacks Bess Throckmorton into next week for carrying on with Raleigh LOL

So that's why Wally knocked up Bess
When Liz would not lift up her dress.

He cut off her head
The blows were thrice
Poor Mary thought
"That wasn't nice"
But when he lifted up her head
He only held her wig instead
"Look out"
Her head rolled over there
Revealing Mary had grey hair!
Too many years spent in the clink
Left Sexy Mary without her slink!

Hey, we should have a Board just for Tudor poems and limmericks!  Seems to be alot of talent for that on here.

Painter has his own Tudor Travels thread.....even Tudor History is so amused with it that they link to it   We did have a Tudor limericks thread going at one time as well.  Looks like Dylandor's offering Painter a lil competition there

Dylandor said:

And Painter says:
"Thumbs up, thumbs up! I like your style,
Your silly ode made Painter smile!
I loved your line about the wig
At Mary's final farewell gig!

I do not mind that you compete
To tell the truth, I think it's neat!
So welcome to the Tudor home
Where we enjoyed your lovely poem!"

I have'nt seen Elizabeth The Golden Age...yet...( I know! I know!)..lol
I loved Cate in the first one though.
I'm sure I'll love her in this one as well.
She just touches me as playing Elizabeth.
These reviews make me want to see it all the more!  :)

How does everyone feel about Helen Mirren's portrayal of a more mature Elizabeth? I thought she was pretty good....but then she is an excellent actress anyway.

Mirren was almost as good as Glenda Jackson, which is quite a compliment!

Pretty good? PRETTY GOOD??!!! I was hotter than hot!!!
And I got all the proof from the Emmy I got!
Yes I made Lizzie Tudor look sexy and shine
Cuz I'm best of the broads who can play a part fine!

I'm on top of the world! I'm the best that there is
And I know in my heart I was born to be Liz!
Did you see how I batted my eyes at the men
And made them all want me again and again?

I can play any part! Not one Bessie will do!
And of course I was great when I did Lizzie Two!
With an Emmy and Oscar, I'm so proud of me
And I'm holding my breath for Elizabeth Three!

Can you stand the suspense? Do your boots really shake?
Don't you wish that Prince Willy has made a mistake?
He just CAN'T can't marry Kate! No, it really won't do!
Let him find him a Liz, and then I'll play HER, too!

In honor of painter1295233

I, Helen, did win both Oscar and Emmy
While holding them close, I looked very fetching

I, Glenda, do hold both Oscar and Emmy
With one Oscar more, it's me she'll be catching.

I watched it on the weekend and really enjoyed it, especially looking at Clive Owen. LOL.  He was just gorgeous as Raleigh.

I liked this one better than the first movie, and I thought that it was a bit more historically accurate.  They're both a little bit confusing though, I think.

I loved Elizabeth, the Golden Years...though I was looking forward to her "heart and stomach of a King" being in her speech to lead the people on, in what was thought to be a battle on English soil.

Helen Mirran did an excellent job as Elizabeth I - I bought the mini series on DVD. Love Jeremy Irons as well
