I have just seen on "This Morning" that the nursery rhyme 3 Blind Mice, is based on the 3 cardinals Latimer etc, who were blinded and burnt because of their faith by Mary, also Little Jack Horner is connected to Henry 8th, it was to do with a bribe.

Here's fun site with this kind of info:  http://www.rhymes.org.uk/index.htm   It has those stories plus more!  For instance the rhyme about the Duke of York (he had ten thousand men, he marched them up to the top of the hill & he marched them down again... ) was about Richard Duke of York & the battle of Sandal Castle.  Very interesting stuff!

The nursery rhyme is not as old as that. It refers to Frederick, Duke of York, second son of George III. He was a commander in the early years of the Napoleonic Wars, but with little success. He made a better administrator however and was C-in-C of the British Army for nearly 30 years.

I'd rather have it be a Yorkist nursery rhyme than a Hanoerian one any day of the week
