Would it be impertinent to compare our two <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Elizabeth</st1:City></st1:place>’s intelligence?

<o:p> </o:p>

How would Elizabeth Tudor be as queen today and by the same token how would Elizabeth Windsor have performed as monarch in the 1500’s?

<o:p> </o:p>

To me the latter would have made a better job, but am I being cynical or should we never draw any comparison.

I think it's rather a moot point as Elizabeth II is merely a figurehead & has never exercised any real power.

I don't know that the Cult of Gloriana would have flown so much in modern times had Elizabeth I ruled nowadays.  Just can't see Elizabeth II having such presence to command in the 1500s had she had to rule then.  She's a very bland figure if you ask me.

I just wonder how bland she would be if she had the power and was able to use it like Elizabeth I. Judy

I think E1 would definately do better in our time then E2 would do in the 1500's.

E1 was far more personable and closer to the people.  E2 seems oblivious to the people (just look at her confusion about the outcry of Princess Diana's death).

E2 seems more concerned about her family wearing the proper hat in public then what the public thinks of them personally.  While E1 always carefully, courted positive public opinion.

The present Queen is "bland" because she has no opportunity to be otherwise. If she had the power that Elizabeth I wielded I'm sure she would be different. That's not to say she would be better than her namesake, merely that she would "shine" more, she'd have to.

I bet E2 would have gotten married...could still be lil Tudors running around today LOL  Since she married one of her cousins in modern times, perhaps she would have married Courtenay back then.  Or Darnley ROFL  Imagine...

OHH ick!  Darnley!  Syphilis would be running rampant in the royal family if he married into it!

The skull of Darnley (Mary's second husband) is now in the Royal College of Surgeons in London and bears the telltale pitted marks of Syphilis. Darnley's notorious promiscuity would have finally had the better of him had he not in fact died a little earlier during the Kirk o' Field incident.

If Elizabeth Windsor was queen in the 1500's, she would have sent Princess Diana to the Tower along with her lovers.  Camilla would have been banished .  Charles would have been sent on a years long  tour of the North Country.  If Elizabeth Tudor ruled England today, she would have kicked ass.

I wouldn't exactly say usurpers as the Hanoverians and their successors the Windsors were placed there by Act of Parliament.

I think E1 would get married if she were Queen today. I wonder who she would marry. She may have made the same choice - Prince Phillip was very handsome and E2 seems to boss him around to some extent!

I don't think that she would have fallen for Darnley. She's too intelligent to do that!
