| History Explorer What the Tudors and Stuarts Did for Us: The Thynkynge Revolution. In Part 2 of our riveting journey through the 16th and 17th centuries, consummate storyteller and host Adam Hart-Davis looks at how printing boomed under the Tudors, revolutionizing every area of human thought along the way. Unfortunately, no Tudor printing presses survive, so Adam attempts to build one, with a little help from experts at the St. Bride Printing Library. Bibles in English influenced the country to become Protestant and helped standardize the language. Soon English began to replace Latin for the first time in scholarly works, while Henry VIII ushered in a new education system offering scholarships to bright boys of poorer backgrounds. In the field of science, anatomical discoveries and ideas about how the body works revolutionized medicine, while discoveries about the stars and planets gave a new impetus to astronomy and how the population saw their place in the universe. cc | |
