I know this movie has taken alot of liberties, but I just really enjoy watching it.
I liked Genevieve Bujold as Anne and Richard Burton as Henry.
I know I'll probably get alot of negative views on it....lol
but I don't care, I just love to watch this movie.
It was made in 1969, quite awhile ago.
But I can picture Bujold (in my minds eye anyway) as Anne.
Has anyone else seen it?

I own this movie and absoulutely love it!  I agree that Bujold makes a great Anne.  Burton however...does not have the presence I would have wished.

Even though there are some inaccuracies(did I spell that right?) like Henry visiting her in the tower.  I love the drama and lavishness of this whole movie.

Bujold really makes Anne come alive in this movie and I recommend it to all Tudor fans.

I finally got a copy of this move too.....lol
I so agree with your post.
I can truly see Bujold as Anne, heartbreakingly so.
It's just one of those 'good ole movies' to me...lol

I have the DVD set of Elizabeth 1 and Henry VIII and his six wives with Keith Michell, love it, love it, love it!!!!!   He really made Henry come to life for me.

Of course whose collection would not be complete without Charles Laughton in "The Private Life of Henry VIII"?

I had a hard time with "Elizabeth" with Cate Blanchett, she made a wonderful Elizabeth and I loved the sets and costumes, but the story was so inaccurate.  Have not seen the sequel yet.

I also love "Lady Jane" with Cary Elwes and (I can't think of her name!!!) again inaccurate but a great movie!

I am really looking forward to "The Other Boleyn Girl"  I liked the book.

Another old favorite is "Young Bess" with (my mind is blank again!) I will have to look them up.

I am sure there are many others out there, but these are some in my collection that I watch over and over.

In the H8 series with Keith Mitchell, there is a wonderful moment that stands out to me.  Henry has just come to Anne's bedside after the birth of Elizabeth.  He is tender after she beats herself up for 'failing' by having a daughter instead of a son.  He comforts her, saying that the next child will be a boy.  It is most impressive for this selfish king to set aside his own disappointment like this.  He leaves her chamber, finds a secluded hallway and softly sobs, crying out to God while banging the back of his head against the wall.  You see the devastation on his face, that he had been hiding from her, to spare her feelings.
I like to hope that Henry had, at least once, thought of someone else ahead of himself.

I think there are two versions of the H8 series, mine does not have that scene.

I like to think that with the birth of Elizabeth he was boyishly hopeful.  All he wanted was a son and heir, in those times you can't really fault him for that.  He just went about it in a rather mean way.

After studing Henry for 34 years I can see him as a man, in love, wanting a son and as a King, wanting an heir to continue his line.  I can see many sides of Henry and want to believe he was the happy, boyish, smart man we see the most.

Politics and the running of a country for that many years had to be hard on his health, mentality and emotions.

Call me a softy but I love Henry for all he stood for.

Have you seen the BBC series from 1970, Elizabeth R, starring Glenda Jackson ? It's very good with a superb scene in which she laments Mary, Queen of Scots' fate.

Yes, I have it on DVD.  I know the scene you are talking about.  Also, I love the end scene when the Duke from France, is it Alencon or Anjou I get confused sometimes, Francis leaves her for the Netherlands.  The poem she says in her head.

Did she really love him and want to marry him, do you think?  Or was it just another one of her games?

I think in her own way she really loved him, but was too afraid of marriage, and did not want to be controlled in anyway by anyone!

And of course don't forget Leicester!

I recall reading somewhere that during the filming of Anne of the Thousand Days, Richard Burton was flirting excessively with his co-star Genevieve Bujold and that Elizabeth Taylor finally insisted on being on set and they say (whoever "they" are), that she appears in a scene in the background.  I must watch it again to look for her.  Perhaps it was a masked ball.  Something like that.  He was a great actor but didn't know when to keep it tucked away.

I have heard this also, but also heard that the scene was editted.

I need to watch the movie again to see if it is true.
