Over here we're just coming to the end of a new BBC series Merlin. It's set during his early years in the Court of King Uther Pendragon. It's pretty good, Lady Morgana is rather tasty, she looks a little like Keira Knightley. Younger famale viewers might well fall for Prince Arthur, whilst the more mature ladies could go for Uther. It ought to be available in the USA soon I would have thought.

The bits I've seen don't seem bad, apart from the politically correct black Guinevere. Who thought that up?????

I've nothing against anyone of any skin colour personally, we're all people underneath after all, but I'm hazarding a guess that the number of black people in dark age/medieval England was very near to zero. It just looks silly and wrong to me, like having a white actor in a version of the Indian epic story Mahabharata, simply unnecessary.

It's certainly worth a watch though, just for a bit of frothy light entertainment.

I think it's better than the BBC's last Saturday night offering Robin Hood. I agree about the black faces, we're supposed not to notice their colour only to accept them as actors, but would they cast a white man as Nelson Mandela ?

First Knight was the best Arthurian legend I've seen so far (mayhap twas the tastiness of Sean Connery & Richard Gere LOL)....whatever happened to Julia Ormonde?  She was a splendid Guinevere.  I shall keep an eye peeled for the Merlin one, TYVM Mark.

Well, Yul Brynner played the King of Siam....I reckon no Thai actors were available LOL  But yesm, I agree, tis an instance of pc trumping historical accuracy   Love to see the reaction with Sean Connery as Mandela LOL LOL LOL

So what's the excuse for nearly always casting Catherine of Aragon as a sallow dark Spaniard when she wasn't?  Are they trying to be pc there?

O & speaking of Robin Hood....this version I'm fond of was totally overshadowed by coming out at the same time as the Kevin Costner epic about which I was not impressed.  This one starred Patrick Bergin (Sleeping With the Enemy pyscho if you don't know who he is & also rather tasty LOL) & Uma Thurman as Maid Marian, & twas much better.  I particularly enjoyed the cinemetography as they took the Dark Ages literally & everything was dark & dreary looking in it.  That's worth a watch if you can find it (I taped it off the telly yrs ago myself).

Hi, I really like the Merlin series, I thought it was just for children at first, but we all look forward to it now!

Does any body know how the Tudors celebrated christmas, I can't say I've ever read anything about it.
