The Richard III Society has a desktop with this sentiment on it offered as a **FREE** download for any Ricardians who'd like to use it for August.

That's great, I'll take a look at that. I may well take a drive down to Bosworth on the 22nd. I've been many times and never tire of the place. I truly think our country would have been just as fine a place, if not even better if Richard had won. Here in York, even after all this time, he's not forgotten. Go to the Kings Head pub down by the river and which king stares down at you from the pub sign? Clue...it aint Henry Tudor and there certainly isn't a Henry Tudor museum here either, unlike Richard who has one in the gatehouse of the city walls.

Thanks for the info Amber

That's true...you don't see any Henry VII Society, do ya?

How deliciously ironic tho....if Ricardians had had their way & Richard III had long reigned, we wouldn't have all these fascinating Tudors to discuss!

I once read somewhere that Queen Elizabeth The First was the best of the Tudors because she had the good grace to die childless and free us from the whole pack of them!!! Ouch!

I reigned for years with style and grace
And wore white lead upon my face,
With lips and wigs of ruby red,
And no real hairs upon my head.

I was the beauty of my time,
With looks that were indeed sublime,
And all the women tried to be
An image of no one but me.

I charmed them all, they loved me best
Of all the Tudors laid to rest,
And so I thought would be a shame
If other royals had my name.

I had no choice, remained a maid
And saw to it I wasn't laid,
And had no spouse so I could swear
Their wouldn't be a Tudor heir.

I couldn't risk a naughty child
To get my crown and be defiled
So now you know just why I did
Decide to die without a kid.

signed,
Elizabeth I, Quene of England
I rest in peace.

Yeah, matches the rest of the family then doesn't it, lol. Actually I'm currently reading Paul Murray Kendall's biography of Warwick The Kingmaker. Though I'm a staunch Yorkist, it's hard not to feel sympathy for Warwick who was ill used by Edward at times. How different history would have been if Edward had taken Warwick's advice about the Woodvilles.

Edward didn't throw around enough largesse to his staunchest supporters & assistants once he was secure on the throne....could be because the Woodvilles were getting a lot of the plums?

Are those of us in GB watching David Starkey's Monarchy ? He believes Richard III murdered his nephews.

I think he is a good presenter but the available evidence points to him being wrong on this. A crime that could have done Richard no good, only harm and for which he was never accused by Tudor. My money is on Buckingham for what it's worth.
