It was shown tonight here in Toledo, OH.   Unfortunately I missed most of it, but they repeat these programs, often along the weekend.

When did Henry II have dealings with Saladin?  I would think that would be Richard I?

Henry II didn't have any dealings with Saladin as such, but he was offered the Crown of Jerusalem in 1185 when King Baldwin IV lay dying of leprosy with only a child as heir. Needless to say Henry refused and never went to the Holy Land. His youngest son Prince John however was keen to go and be King, but his father refused him permission.

Quite right!  It was Richard II.  I believe I was watching the program repeat, while typing my post.  Never a good idea!  I tend to type what I hear.

Forgive the gaffe, how silly of me.

Yet another.  I meant to say, Richard the 1st.

This gives me the chance to say that Mark's comment is interesting.  I believe Henry II's wife, Eleanor (and Richard's mother) did go to the Holy Land?  This I am not completely certain.

LibbyWideAwake - for the most part.

Eleanor went with her first husband, Louis on a Crusade, and she carried on "shamelessly" with her uncle while there. I think his name was Raymond, but not completely sure.

Yes, it was her uncle Raymond, Prince of Antioch, ruler of one of the Crusader Staes set up after the First Crusade.

In regards to the Raymond - Eleanor affair, Elizabeth I, summed up what the whole Plantagenet/Tudor family's motto should have been when she wrote..."Much suspected of me, but nothing proved"!
