Why didn't Richard Duke of York seize the throne for himself when he defeated Henry VI at the battle of Northhampton? Why did he just agree to become Henry's heir instead? Then Edward IV took up the Yorkist cause & successfully ousted Henry VI. What changed in the political climate of England to make the overthrow of Henry more acceptable in Edward's time, such a short time later? Did it have anything to do with what happened at Sandal?
