Hmmm.....TDIH says that James I (VI of Scotland) today landed at Leith with his new bride, Anne of Denmark.  And coinkydentally enough, today was also the day his son Charles I married Henrietta Maria of France, but that was by proxy.  I always thought the princesses were the ones that traveled, but it seems that James took a trip to Denmark to be married instead.  That had to have been very unusual because I can't think of another royal circumstance where the groom went to the other country!  I think Henry V married Katherine of Valois in France, but he was over there fighting anyway so methinks that doesn't really count.  Can anybody else think of a situation where the groom did the traveling instead of the bride?  I wonder why James did it?

Richard I married Berengaria while on the way to the Crusade. Again, it was like Henry V, he didn't go simply to get married but just that he was already outside of England.

That's a really interesting question. I also  can't think of any situation where there was an actual trip of the groom, instead of the bride. Later on, Charles's family travels to France, but for other reasons. All the records we have are of bride's travels, since long times.
