I just ran across THIS account & it insists Henry died of syphilis & that's why the Tudor line came to a screeching halt

Here's another candidate for what ailed Henry....Cushing's syndrome?  Read symptoms HERE & see if you think that's Henry.

This is an old topic, and I know it's covered elsewhere, but this is the thread I found first.

I was thinking. Most people these days with medical backgrounds tend to believe that Henry had diabetes. He very well could have. But having one thing does NOT preclude someone from contracting syphilis, right?

Granted, there are no medical records to indicate his doctors treated him for syphilis. But think about it. If you were one of Henry's doctors, would YOU want to be the one to tell him that he had syphilis? Even if you did someone like Henry, who was Clearly Loved By God as much as he was and had the power to lop off your head, would simply tell you no, he didn't have it. End of discussion. (Except for the part where he lops off your head.)

I think the syphilis question is still open to debate, just for that reason. Who seriously would ever have told him he had it?

In 1813 during renovations. It was discovered by accident and was found to have partially collapsed exposing the bones. Apart from Jane seymour's coffin they also found that he shared the vault with Charles I and one of Queen Anne's many infants.

Thanks for that, how very peculiar to bury others with him I wonder why!
He obviously wasn't so revered years later, for them to put other royals with him.

I am quite annoyed, there is a new series coming on the television ( BBC 2 ) about the Tudors, and because I live in Spain we don't have BBC 2 after about 6pm. I have seen clips and it looks good.

There's only so much burial space in Westminster Abbey, so they have to share their final resting place. Opening the vaults has revealed some strange compabions for the voyage into eternity.

I'm getting my Windsors confused with my Westminsters. Queen Anne's son buried there too is probably the stillborn son she had in 1698.

There is a book about the last days of Henry VIII. It's in the library so I will read it sometime!

I don't see why the authors of the extract posted here think that Elizabeth 1 was probably barren. She didn't get married and she probably didn't sleep with anyone either, so there's little evidence for that statement.

It was MQOS sleeping with Anne's infants & some other royals....there's a thread over on Stuarts not too long ago about it   Methinks they just pried open a tomb & hurled poor old Charles I down the stairs to get rid of him   Charles II showed remarkable restraint when he was reinstated in regicidal revenge.
