Ok, this is like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon... only "geekier"

Ok... here's how it goes.... name a monarch/member of nobilty from the general era... and trace them back to Henry VIII and the next person has to trace them to Henry VIII (make it as complex as ya want )

For Joan of Navarre

*In 1545, Duke William V of Cleves annulled his marriage to Joan of Navarre, they had no children.
*Joan of Navarre married Antione de Bourbon.
*Their son, Henry married Margaret of Valois becoming King Henry IV of France.
*Margaret was the daughter of King Henry II of France and Catherine de'Medici.
*Catherine's son, Francis II, brother of Margaret, was the first husband of Mary, Queen of Scots.
*Mary's grandmother, Margaret Tudor, Queen Dowager of Scotland, was
sister of KING HENRY VIII.

Next..... Margaret of Austria (Regent of Netherlands)

Next person...

*One of their children was Frances Grey, wife of Henry Grey, Marquess of Dorset
*One of their children was Lady Jane Grey
*Jane was in the household of the Dowager Queen, Catherine Parr, after her marriage to Thomas Seymour, Baron Sudeley
*Thomas Seymour's sister was Jane Seymour
*Jane Seymour was Henry's third wife and the mother of his heir

Catherine de Medici...

Mother of Francis ii, King of France

Francis was married to Mary, Queen of Scots

Mary's mother was Marie de Guise

Henry VIII had proposed marriage to Marie.

***Also.... Mary, QOS's father, James V of Scotland was the son of Margaret Tudor.... Sister to King Henry VIII

LOL and Christina of Milan had a lot of other interesting connections to Henry VIII.... including being a courted by  William of Cleves, brother of Henry's 4th wife, and companion to Philip I of Spain, husband  to Mary, daughter of Henry

Next up..... Manuel I, King of Portugal

*Manuel was married to not one but TWO princesses of Spain; first Isabella, who had previously been the queen of his predecessor (quite the bidness going on at the Vatican in the Papal Dispensensations: Consanguinity Dept lol); after her death, to her younger sister, Maria!
*The two other Spanish princesses were Joanna & Catherine, so I could go at this two ways now:
*Joanna, following the death of hubby Philip, was very seriously considered as a bride for the widowed Henry VII (despite the fact that even her dad, Ferdinand, knew she was stark raving mad)
*Henry VII, natch, being Henry VIII's pater familias
OR
*Catherine was sent to England as a bride for Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales
*Arthur was Henry VIII's older brother
*Catherine stood in line at the PD:CD lol to marry Henry VIII

OK, I wanted to make this one a little more twisted than the obvious (OK, Katherine of Valois was Henry VIII's great-grandmother).  See if this one works.......
Katherine of Valois "married" Owen Tudor
Their son Edmund, married Margaret Beaufort
Margaret's father was John Beaufort
John's sister, Joanna Beaufort, married Ralph Nevill
Their daughter, Cecily, married Richard, Duke of York
Their son was Edward IV
His daughter, Elizabeth of York, was the mother of Henry VIII

(and it only took 3 books to come up with this one      )

Now, having looked at a fascinating chart showing the Plantagenet descent of Henry and his Queens, try Henry Percey, known as Hotspur.

Teacher, teacher, I have a question!!
OK, anyone - I remember reading that as a little boy, Richard, Duke of York (the younger "Prince in the Tower") was betrothed to the little Mowbray heiress - is she Margaret listed above?  Also, is the Sir Robert Howard that she married the son of Jack Howard who was so faithful to King Richard 111 ?
Thanks for any answers.

Actually, if I have it right (I love the begatting  but they are soooo twisted sometimes), the last Mowbray Duke of Norfolk was Margaret's brother John; his daughter Anne Mowbray was the great heiress who was wed to Richard, Duke of York at the tender age of five.  When she died three years later is when the Norfolk lands & titles passed to Margaret's side of the family, the Howards.  Jack, I believe, was Margaret & Robert's son, & he became the first Howard Duke of Norfolk.
