Hi Everyone, Sorry its a bit late.
I not been round much i'm afraid i been very depressed and not well. This time of year always gets to me, i hate all the advertising, the crass commercialism etc. In one of the offices i work for i was asked to take part in a secret santa. This is something i've never managed to come to terms with. If i want to buy someone a gift for Yule / Xmas - then i will, it doesnt have a limit on price, as my love doesnt have a limit. If i see something, and i think a person will like it - then i'll get it. Equally, there are ppl on this earth that i barely want to be in the same room as - so i absolutely wont buy them something. I know that makes me very selfish at this time of year - but i wud rather be selfish than a hypocrite. Its the same as singing Auld lang syne, or the mindless giving and recieving of cards. I'd much rather recieve a hug or a kiss (Preferably a kiss lol) from someone who meant it, than a card or present from somone just going thru the motions.
My Childrens Mother - goes out every year, gets the biggest box of cards she can find, sends them to neighbours we dont speak to, associates and family we havent heard from in years - pretty much everyone she's EVER met - just so no-one feels left out. My Living room has 132 cards, about 127 are from ppl i neither know nor care about. the last day of postal service this year we recieved 20 cards alone - guess that was all the ppl who got a card 2 days earlier, and then thought - oh no - we missed the fletchers lol.
Please dont get me wrong - i'm not Scrooge after all!! (goddess - i hope i'm not). There is no nicer thing than at special times of year, letting those you care about, and who care about you in return, KNOW that they are in your thoughts. It would be better though - i think - to make sure that they know ALL YEAR ROUND.
Communication has never been easier, there is a recession looming, it is NOW that families and friends should be coming together, sharing, and caring for each other. We dont need cards to do it, we dont need expensive trinkets. We just need to let ppl know that should they need us, we will be there.
I'd like to tell you all a story - if you dont mind!
Last Xmas in my house was a nightmare, My Brother in law had split from his partner in September, he asked if he could stay with my family for a couple of weeks, just till he got himself sorted. I told him that while he was in transit, the sofabed in the spare room was would always be available for him, It was his own private space, he was welcome to join us for mealtimes, there was space for his TV, Stereo, Games Consoles etc. it wouldnt be perfect, but it is certainly adequate. What he neglected to tell me was that he was to have his 2 yr old son 4 nights a week and that he wanted his 2 children from his 1st marriage (18 & 16) round twice a week as well. There obviously wasnt space for this - he seemed oblivious to the concept of making the best of a bad situation, my childrens schoolwork started to suffer almost straight away - so i tactfully told him that he couldnt do this from the spare room, and really he needed a lot more space. His family meanwhile were all scouring the papers, local authority web sites to find him a permanent home. By December, he had STILL not even registered himself as homeless. I came home the first friday in December to find all 3 of his children - and him, converting my loft. He had the hugest grin on his face - I've solved the Problem of the lack of space he says!!!! now there is no reason my Dan and Dave cant stay over even more!!!
The next monday morning, His sister, Mother and Father frog marched him to the council offices, declared him as homeless and left all his suitcases in the foyer adding - he's all yours! 2 week later, he had been given a flat, but had to wait until end of January before it was completed.
It was the best xmas present my family cud have wished for. This year with that in mind, my children have gone thru hoops to remind us just how special the season is, and even tho its important it is to take care of one another, Its also nice just to have time with those you love.
A great lesson learned is that where family is concerned, we can overcome almost everything. As for my brother in law, there are always reminders of his stay, to date i have recieved 3 court summons, 2 sets of bailiffs, 1 tow truck to come and take away the car he left on my front for 6 months after he moved cos it wasnt taxed. a few ppl ringing about catalogues, Insurance, his bank and even legal threats from his solicitors cos he didnt pay their bill!!!!
Proof if any were needed - that you just cant help everyone!
