It's been a strange journey so far. Only with hindsight can I see events tying together.
In 1988 I bumped into an old friend I hadn't seen for ages. After chatting a while, she said she was going to see a medium in the Portsmouth Guildhall that night but had a spare ticket as her friend had dropped out at the last minute. Would I be interested?
Short notice - but I said yes as I was fascinated by things like this (although a little sceptical too).
That night, it was a full house and the lady (can't remember the name) began. After a while, she said she had someone for 'the lady in the blue shirt' and pointed to me.
She said it was a gentleman and he was saying the name 'Len'. I didn't recognise it and asked if it could be 'Ellen', which was my deceased grandmother's name. She said she didn't think it sounded like Ellen and so said perhaps it was for someone close to me - perhaps the lady to my right.
As soon as she said that, she looked startled and said 'hang on - the gentleman is saying "mention Sandy ... no, Alex" .
I raised my hand. Alex is the name of my only son, who died at birth with the cord around his neck in 1986.
The lady said that this WAS for me then as this man got quite agitated as she moved away. She said he was my maternal grandfather (which would tally as 'Sandy' is the Scottish shortened term for Alexander and my maternal grandparents were Scottish)
She told me quite a few things - none of which I could confirm at the time as I never knew my grandfather. He died 2 weeks after someone beat him up in a pub when my mum was only 18. I spoke to her later though and she said the description and other stuff was spot on.
The thing I was told that I found interesting though is that I was told 'there is a protective ring around your family'. Also, now I keep smelling cigarette smoke from time to time (none of us smokes). Well, it's less of a 'smell' than a tickling smoke 'sensation' at the top of my nose - if you know what I mean. My mum tells me her dad smoked woodbines. Could this be him letting me know he's about?
Apparantly, my grandad was a bit of a - how can I put it nicely - 'low achiever'. He hardly ever had paid employment after he left the Army and liked a pint down the pub.
Why is it him who came to pass this message? I didn't know him. Was I 'led' to that meeting at the Guildhall that night?
I do believe that there are occasions when we are gently 'funnelled' in a certain direction.
The 'protective ring' interests me too. Things have happened to me and my fasmily that are beyond logic but I'll share them in a different post.
Thanks for listening.
