Trees, fascinating creations aren't they? Our very Earth - Mother - depends on them, for without life there would be no Mother Earth.
Another thing about trees is their seasonal cycle, where they fall asleep in winter, to awakening in the spring. Compare that to our daily cycle and u know the reason why they have such long lives....
Walking amongst trees is a wonderful and exhilarating experience for me, a new one every time. My spirit within is content, centered and at peace amongst all those trees. Is it any wonder? I am in the presence of those that live long, I breathe in their very presence, the ambience without, and realise anew, that I walk in their time. It is much slower than ours, and this is reflected within.
Retracting myself into the Treetime, I frequently find meself standing suddenly still, feeling the aloneness of a single human in a forest, untill teh soles of my feet warm up, through me boots and I feel not a single tree but the entire wood. It is AWESOME! It's like I am suddenly splintered into many parts, then it slows. Sometimes my eyes dont work, but i feel the wind, rain sun, my feet are snuggly warm, my body vibrates, and it feels like all teh hairs on my body is standing on end. It does not last long, its is too overwhelming for me to sometimes, but it is always something to treasure forever. I go home recharged, and i usually go into periods of intense study and research.
It is the Awen.
The last time i did it, I awoke to find the dog licking my face, and found that i was curled up into a ball at teh base of an Oak tree; - all i can remember of that one, is the sensation of falling out of the sky, and bouncing on teh ground before coming to rest, amongst the grass...an acorn..
like being born again... \
I thanked the divine for giving me this.
Awen is a Welsh word, it means divine inspiration, which comes from the heart...
of the wood?
The Bards of old made their harps out of the heart of the wood, which is the hardest part of the tree, and runs through the middle, usually Oak.
Take these words for Oak.........
Daur - Irish - Oak (Drui - Druid)
Dervo - Gaulish - Oak
Derw - Welsh - Oak (Derwydd - Druids)
Drus - Greek - Oak
Possible further sources for the term Druid are:-
Draoi - Gaelic - Magician
Dryad - Greek - Tree or Wood Nymph
Druaight - Manx - Enchantment.
May the light of Awen shine.......
